Rabeni loses eye-gouging appeal

Seru Rabeni
Rabeni will not be able to play for Fiji this summer

Leicester centre Seru Rabeni's season is over after his appeal against a 14-week ban for eye-gouging was dismissed by the Rugby Football Union.

Rabeni was found guilty of making illegal contact with Andy Kyriacou's eye during his side's 36-23 defeat of Saracens on 15 March.

The Fijian claimed the contact was accidental, but his argument was rejected by the RFU disciplinary panel.

Rabeni's suspension will run from 1 April to 8 July.

The punishment is one of the longest suspensions handed out in the history of the Premiership.

It means the 29-year-old will miss the rest of the season for the Tigers, including Saturday's EDF Energy Cup final against the Ospreys, and will affect any possible appearances for Fiji and the Pacific Islands over the summer.
