American physicist who discovered the positron in 1932 while studying cosmic rays.
He also discovered the muon, which was thought to be the particle theoretically predicted by Yukawa in
1935. The particle predicted by Yukawa was subsequently discovered by Powell. Anderson shared the 1936
Nobel prize in physics with Hess.
