from BIG to small
●
Prefectures (ken) are divided into counties (gun ( 郡 )) or cities
    (shi ( 市 ))
●
Small cities are generally divided into "areas" or
    "neighbourhoods" (chou ( 町 ))
●
Big cities are divided into wards (ku ( 区 )). Wards are divided
    into (chou ( 町 )) again.
●
    Then the blocks are numbered
●
At the lowest level, the building has a number
●
Often the name of the apartment house is included together
    with the apartment number

         What you take as granted
             in “Western” countries
                 is likely to be different
                    somewhere else.

SOTM2011 - #38 daniel@georepublic.de

Language can be a real barrier

SOTM2011 - #39 daniel@georepublic.de

OSM is a great way to make friends
when you're in a foreign country

SOTM2011 - #40 daniel@georepublic.de
If you come to Japan, send an email to
       http://lists.openstreetmap.org/mailman/listinfo/talk-ja

and some local mappers will help you to get
                             around!
