The depiction of Face with Tears of Joy on JoyPixels. FwToJ is the second most popular emoji on Twitter.
Emoji (絵文字 emoji) are small pictures or smileys used in text messages and websites. Emoji have a variety of categories, including smileys, objects, weather, and animals. Emoji are similar to emoticons, but they are actual pictures instead of using existing keyboard symbols.
Emoji-like symbols originated from Sharp PA-8500, a device released in 1988. However, as more and more phones started using these symbols, Softbank emoji would get compatibility on iPhone 2.2 in 2008. The rest is history.
Etymology[]
Emoji literally means 'Picture character' in Kanji as e (絵) means picture and moji (文字) meaning character.
