- 2010 – Unknown criminals pour more than 2.5 million liters of diesel oil and other hydrocarbons into the River Lambro in Northern Italy, sparking an environmental disaster.
- 2014 – The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Southern Russia, end. The host nation, Russia, ends the games with the most gold medals, making it the second Winter Olympics in a row in which the host country achieves this (after Canada in 2010).
- 2018 – One of the biggest surprises occurs in Olympic sport occurs, when Germany defeats Canada 4–3 in their men's ice hockey semi-final at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
