The ability to have the entire balance paid off automatically from a bank account each month.

Pretty much every card issuer offers this option. Few advertise it and Discover card is no exception. Also this section seems more like an enthusiastic rant from an eager fan than a valid encyclopedia entry.

Where is the verification of this? How is this information referenced?

Please keep it in. It is true. Need an Affidavit? I will provide one. Bet that I could get 100's of others. Just happened to me and my wife, both loyal Discover holders for years. No explanation was given, nor could one be provided. Spinoff in June or September, 2007?

The intro section states that Morgan Stanley will spin off the Discover unit by June, 2007 (which ends this week.) The Developments section says that the spin off is due within three months, by September, 2007. Does anyone know which one is correct? Article move

I think it makes sense to move this article to Discover Financial Services (currently a redirect). Then, Discover Card would become more specifically about the present status and history of the card itself. As it is, the article suffers from split personality disorder (look at the intro, for example). So, for example, Apple Inc. and iMac; Discover Financial Services and Discover Card. I agree that the article needs to be split into more than one, because Discover has changed much since it's inception. A perfect example is Discover Network, which now operates similar to Visa and MasterCard, allowing banks other than Discover Bank to issue Discover Network Cards. And then combine this with the acquisition of the Diners Club network, which will be merged with the Discover Network in 2-3 years. I think there should be one article for the network which talks about the network and who the licensees are, and another article about Discover Bank and the cards it issues. Discover Bank is no longer the only issuer of Discover Network Cards. (Technically "Discover Cards" are issued by Discover Bank, while "Discover Network Cards" are any card issued on the network regardless of what bank issued them.) Founding date

According tot heir website, the "Discover Bank" has been in business in Delware for 95 years. At what point did the Bank become the issuer for "Discover Card" if the card was originally developed by someone else? Discover Bank was originally named Greenwood Trust or something of that nature, I believe. When Discover bought it a few years back, it was renamed Discover Bank. As I understand it, when one bank or financial institution acquires another, they usually assume the original founding date. It's usually best to say something along the lines of "Discover Bank was founded in 1835 as Greenwood Trust" or something along those lines.   user:j    (aka justen)   22:53, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Morgan Stanley Card

I suggest that this article also mentions the phrase Morgan Stanley Card somewhere. For example: "The Discover Card, also known as the Morgan Stanley Card, is a major credit card [...]" The Morgan Stanley article doesn't mention the phrase/term either, but people use it, Google gives 11,200 hits for it, and Morgan Stanley's website does too (see for example here, which is also the second Google link when searching the phrase). If the Discover Card is not the Morgan Stanley Card - which is very well possible, because I don't know anything about credit card things - it would make even more sense to write something about the Morgan Stanley Card either in this article or in the article about the company. Discover was spunoff from Morgan Stanley several years ago. Morgan Stanley retained its own small credit card portfolio, marketed under its own name. The Morgan Stanley World MasterCard is a completely separate product from the Discover Card, and they were never one and the same. jæs (talk) 16:31, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bravo Card

I remember that I had a "Bravo" credit card, issued by Greenwood Trust, sometime in the 90s. As I recall, there was a lot of fanfare when the Bravo Card was released, but it wasn't around for very long, and failed in a huge financial fiasco. Recent (2017) acceptance issues in China for Discover chip card

I do realize when Discover started issuing chip cards for Discover it it won't get accepted in UnionPay POS in mainland China, and I actually experienced this myself when I was in China in 2015 and the terminal would give different error messages when I tried with the chip, and ended up falling back to swipe. My suspicion is the Chinese POS's don't have Discover AID added or recognized, and I would give it some time but apparently this hasn't been changed in 2017.

Requested move 25 May 2025

Discover Card → Discover – Discover Card should be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The current "Discover" article should be moved to Discover (disambiguation). After the Capital One merger, Discover Financial Services is now defunct. However, Capital One has confirmed that the Discover brand name will be retained for the foreseeable future and will continue to offer discover cards. Given the card’s long-standing national presence and consumer recognition, moving this article to Discover would improve searchability, reduce confusion, and align with WP:PRIMARYTOPIC policy.   • Oppose on grounds of WP:PT2 (long-term significance)/the current WP:NOPRIMARY status quo for a worldwide audience. Discover Card currently is not used or marketed in most countries outside the United States. It remains to be seen if Capital One's acquisition of the credit card brand is going to change that in the near future, as Capital One's reach seems to only extend to Canada and the UK, two of those counties where the Discover Card brand seems to not really be used or marketed there.     Businesses that accept the card is one thing, including those establishments with merchant accounts that may accept various credit cards from around the world. The number of Discover Card users, and the countries where the card is available and marketed to customers to apply to get is quite another. And I would be very wary of using the WP:GOOGLETEST in that particularly way now, as Google seems to now be using Internet geolocation more each day to give each user "more helpful results"[1] regardless of what different country version of Google is used. Whether I use Google Australia, Google India, Google UK or the original US version, the results pages will currently use geolocation to attempt to list my estimated physical location in the "fine print" at the bottom of the page along with the help, feedback, privacy, and terms links. And among them, where is the card available and marketed to customers to apply to? The average person is unlikely to be aware of the card if it is not marketed or available to them. On the other hand, businesses may have access to merchant accounts that may accept various credit cards from around the world including the Discover Card.
