Doctors at the Krasnogorsk hospital saved a 42-year-old patient who had spent several days with a glass lodged in his rectum, according to a statement published on the website of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region.
The man arrived at the emergency department complaining of a three-day bowel blockage caused by a foreign object in the rectum. According to the patient, he hoped the glass would exit on its own, but this never happened.
“We managed to extract the foreign object without making any incisions. The operation took an hour — the difficulty was that the glass was hard to grasp, and using instruments carried a risk of breaking it, which could have caused serious consequences,” said Dmitry Zhilkin, head of the second surgical department at Krasnogorsk Hospital, noting that the operation was successful.
The doctor emphasized that seeking immediate medical care in such situations is vital. Prolonged presence of a foreign object inside the body can damage the rectal lining and lead to infection, inflammation, abscesses, and other purulent processes, potentially progressing to sepsis.
