The red bars show the annual-mean sea ice area for the models which simulate a snowfall rate during the period 1986–2005 close to the CloudSat snowfall rate (±20 %) on the Antarctic continent (north of 82°S). The annual-mean sea ice area in the southern hemisphere observed by remote sensing during the period 1986–2005 has also been reported (blue bar).
