War of the Worlds
 [6/29] Showtimes Trailers Photos
| Director: Steven Spielberg Stars: Tom Cruise Dakota Fanning Tim Robbins ...See Full CastStudio: Paramount Pictures | As Earth is invaded by Martian war machines, one family fights for survival. | When you are allotted the biggest budget in history -- a reported $200 million -- you forget about your Indiana Jones 4s and Mission: Impossible 3s and get your rumps out to Jersey to start filming. While the plot nuances are being closely guarded, we're left wondering whether the film, which is gunning to go from greenlighted to released in under a year, can possibly rival the success of E.T. and Jurassic Park. Certainly Cruise is hoping so; he's getting 10% of the box office, DVD, video game, and toy profits. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

Undead
 [limited] Showtimes Trailers Photos
| Director: Michael Spierig Peter Spierig Stars: Felicity Mason Mungo McKay Rob Jenkins ...See Full CastStudio: Lions Gate Films Inc. | Meteorites touch down in an Australian fishing village, awakening flesh-crazed zombies.
| Lions Gate Films unleashes the debut of Australian twin brothers Peter and Michael Spierig. They're also developing the brothers' script Daybreakers, a vampire vs. human future-world thing. In Undead, expect tough-as-nails zombies, Peter Jackson lookey-likeys, and super-stylized action; fanboys are ravenous over this one. Is this going to be this summer's Shaun of the Dead? | Director: Tim Story Stars: Ioan Gruffudd Michael Chiklis Chris Evans Jessica Alba Hamish Linklater ...See Full CastStudio: Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. | A group of astronauts gain superpowers after a cosmic radiation exposure and must use them to oppose the plans of their enemy, Doctor Doom. | Rumor has it that Tim Story's work on Taxi got him the FF job (maybe Fox execs saw a different Latifah/Fallon movie than we did). Regardless, we understand that the script (handled by Simon Kinberg, who's also writing X3) features as much comedy as action, and there'll be plenty of CGI and wire work to entertain or annoy you. The latest rumor has it the film might be postponed for a couple weeks, as said CGI work is proving to be a tricky beast to tame. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

Dark Water
 Showtimes Trailers Photos
| Director: Walter Salles Stars: Jennifer Connelly Ariel Gade John C. Reilly ...See Full CastStudio: Buena Vista Pictures | A woman (Connelly) embroiled in a custody battle holes up in a decrepit apartment building with her young daughter (Gade). Thinking they're safe for the time being, a series of eerie happenings and a ghostly visitor cause the mother to question her decision, and her sanity. | Hideo Nakata has now seen four of his eight Japanese-language features get the Hollywood remake treatment. In the very capable hands of director Salles, star Connelly, and screenwriter Rafael Yglesias, Dark Water could meet (or, artisically speaking, even surpass) the ride proffered by The Ring in 2002. | Director: Ingmar Bergman Stars: Liv Ullmann Erland Josephson Brje Ahlstedt Julia Dufvenius ...See Full CastStudio: Sony Pictures Classics | Marianne (Ullman), some thirty years after divorcing Johan (Josephson), decides to visit her ex-husband at his summer home. She arrives in the middle of a family drama between Johan's son from another marriage and his granddaughter. | This, Bergmann's follow-up to Scenes from a Marriage, is also the director's last film. Bergmann snubbed both Venice and Cannes in 2003 to finish up the project, though we're a bit surprised it was positioned for Oscar nominations last (or this) year. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
 Showtimes Trailers Photos
| Director: Tim Burton Stars: Johnny Depp Freddie Highmore David Kelly ...See Full CastStudio: Warner Bros. | Young Charlie Bucket (Highmore) wins the chance to tour the most magnificant chocolate factory in the world and meet the man behind it all, the eccentric Willy Wonka (Depp). | The casting here is so good it makes me nauseous, although there're some great picks in this DIY dream cast poll. We credit Burton for mixing knowns and unknowns; meanwhile, we can't believe the good fortune that surrounds Highmore, who has starred in two films with Johnny Depp before the age of 13. John August's screenplay is said to follow the book much more closely than the original film, which is somewhat of a shocker considering Burton's dark inclinations. And at this point, your guess is as good as ours in terms of whether anyone's plotting for a Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator sequel. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

The Wedding Crashers
 Showtimes Trailers Photos
| Director: David Dobkin Stars: Owen Wilson Vince Vaughn Rachel McAdams ...See Full CastStudio: New Line Cinema | A pair of committed womanizers (Wilson and Vaughn) who sneak into weddings to take advantage of the romantic tinge in the air find themselves at odds with one another when one of them falls for Claire Clearly (McAdams). | Wilson and Vaughn play divorce attorneys in their buddy Dobkin's latest. We'll assume that the trio tinkered with untested screenwriters Steve Faber and Bob Fisher's script, and that someone double-checked to make sure Claire was developed to contend with McAdams' formidable talent. And rumor has it that Farrell's cameo will have you craving meatloaf. Just you wait ... MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

Happy Endings
 [LA/NY] Showtimes Trailers Photos
| Director: Don Roos Stars: Lisa Kudrow Maggie Gyllenhaal ...See Full CastStudio: Lions Gate Films Inc. | In Los Angeles, three separate matters entwine, bringing together ten different people.
| The Opposite of Sex director Roos assembles a clutch indie cast that just might make us forgive and forget that his last movie was Bounce. (Though in truth, we like anyone who casts Lisa Kudrow and refuses to make her into a caricature.) Maggie Gyllenhaal, Bobby Cannavale, Steve Coogan, and Laura Dern are in the cast, as is Jesse Bradford, the slappable intern on The West Wing. And yes, the title is a reference to a massage "with release." MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

| Director: Michael Bay Stars: Scarlett Johansson Ewan McGregor Djimon Hounsou Steve Buscemi ...See Full CastStudio: DreamWorks SKG | A man (Ewan McGregor) who discovers that he is actually a "harvested being" looks to escape from the utopian facility where he and others are kept. His only ally is a woman (Johansson) who's pregnant with her "sponsor's" child. | Say what you will about Bay's movies, but the man knows how to make a hit. This time he turns to indie darlings for his first true sci-fi film, working off of a screenplay by Alias writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. And, no, we don't have a definite definition for "harvested being" yet, either. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

| Director: Richard Linklater Stars: Billy Bob Thornton Greg Kinnear Marcia Gay Harden ...See Full CastStudio: Paramount Pictures | A grizzled little league coach (Thornton) tries to turn his team of misfits and weirdos into champs.
| If anyone is going to step into Matthau's shoes and hand a kid a beer, it's going to be Thornton, right? Meanwhile, we're hoping for an R rating, which is the only way Linklater (who, with School of Rock, proved his ability to direct youngsters) and Bad Santa screenwriters Glenn Ficarra and John Requa could possibly honor the beloved original. | Director: Steve Carr Stars: Martin Lawrence Megan Mullally Breckin Meyer ...See Full CastStudio: 20th Century Fox Pictures | After a public meltdown, acclaimed college hoops coach Roy McCormick (Lawrence) is demoted to a long-suffering junior varsity team.
| Director Carr hasn't had a bomb yet, but can he help make it two hits in a row for Lawrence? A feel-good sports comedy seems like a solid route to pursue, provided audiences aren't still in winter hibernation. Having Will & Grace's Mullally on your side can't hurt, though. And then there's Breckin Meyer. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

| Director: Rob Zombie Stars: Sid Haig Sheri Moon Bill Moseley ...See Full CastStudio: Lions Gate Films Inc. | After their bloody attack on two roadtripping couples, The Fireflys and Captain Spaulding evade the police and head out on a cross-country killing spree with a gang of bounty hunters on their tail. | After he experienced serious drama trying to get House of 1000 Corpses made and distributed, Rob Zombie was able, in the wake of the film's cult-pleasing success, to quickly drum up funding and get to go-ahead for a sequel. Rumor has it Lion's Gate is so committed to the film that there's talk about Rejects being their widest-released title to date. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

Locklear could use a boost as well, as her television prospects have sagged of late. Speaking of TV people, nice to see Chris Noth and Amy Acker in the mix here. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

Now, she just has to find out if it's real. | Groove director Harrison's second feature has flown under the radar since its Sundance debut (where it scored a cinematography award). | Director: Rob Cohen Stars: Josh Lucas Jessica Biel Jamie Foxx ...See Full CastStudio: Columbia Pictures | Three NAVY pilots must prevent their new flying partner -- an artificial intelligence program -- from initiating an attack on U.S. soil. | Leave it up to XXX director Cohen to plug sexy, mixed race and gender faces into his Top Gun meets Wargames meets corporate downsizing paranoia formula. Lucas was gunning for his first leading role, though Foxx's Oscar win remixed Columbia's marketing plan, and now Jamie's in the middle. The Brothers Grimm
 Showtimes Trailers Photos
| Director: Terry Gilliam Stars: Matt Damon Heath Ledger Monica Bellucci ...See Full CastStudio: Dimension Films | Folklore collectors and con artists, Jake and Will Grimm travel from village to village pretending to protect townsfolk from enchanted creatures and performing exorcisms. They are put to the test, however, when they encounter a real magical curse in a haunted forest with real magical beings, requiring genuine courage.
| Gilliam's first fairy tale since Baron Munchausen had trouble getting off the ground, like most of the director's projects. Orginally announced at the end of 2002, Grimm was grounded for the better part of a year before it kicked into gear mid-2003. Once slated for a Oscar-chasing debut at the end of 2004, the film was pushed back for almost a year to the date as Miramax pondered its post-Disney future and hedged its bets on The Aviator. | Director: Gary David Goldberg Stars: Diane Lane John Cusack Elizabeth Perkins ...See Full CastStudio: Warner Bros. Pictures Co. | Meddling family members of a persnickety teacher (Lane) enter her into several online dating programs for a change of pace. | Sounds mediocre at best ... While Lane grabs nearly all the precious few roles offered to actresses her age, Cusack continues to approach 40 in a vulgar fashion. Our advice to everyone in front of the camera is to wriggle free of TV impresario Goldberg's undoubtedly hemmed-in screenplay by improving at will. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews

| Director: Mike Mitchell Stars: Kurt Russell Kelly Preston Michael Angarano ...See Full CastStudio: Buena Vista Pictures | Set in a world where superheroes are commonly known and accepted, young Jeremy (Angarano), the son of Captain Stronghold (Russell) and Josie Jetstream (Preston), tries to find a balance between being a normal teenager and an extraordinary being. | You know that Disney's thinking they have a live-action version of The Incredibles on their hands, but we pretty sure that, since they've skimped on behind-the-scenes talent, they're in for a letdown of Thunderbirds-sized proportions. Director Mitchell was responsible for another 2004 failure, Surviving Christmas. MessageBoard UserComments|Reviews
