Let me start off by saying Chris Rock is one of my favorite
actors/comedians. He is extremely talented. However, DOWN TO EARTH
doesn't do him justice. He plays a guy who is trying to be a comedian.
Then one night while riding his bike home from an act he sees a woman
and is hit by a bus. When he gets to heaven he is told he can have
another dead man's body. He chooses an old white guy who knows the
woman he was looking at before he dies so he chooses the body. That is
when the laughs begin to kick in. Once in the body he raps to DMX,
saves a hospital from destruction, and tries to keep his comedic gig.
The movie isn't consistently funny throughout, there are some bright
spots here and there, but one gets the sense it could have been a whole
lot better. Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, Eugene Levy, and Mark Addy are
great in their respective roles, but Regina King as the love interest
gives a rather weak performance. It's not a great movie, but not a bad
one either. If you are a fan of Chris Rock, you'll probably get some
laughs out of it. **
