A fine film, 24 January 2005

I first saw this film when I was a kid and instantly identified with
the characters and environment in it - having watched it again recently
it's lost none of its original charm. It is, in my view, one of the
all-time great British films. The humour and starkness of Kes are so
identifiable to anyone who grew up in Northern England at a similar
time that the main character could have been any one of your friends.
Actors who have "learned their trade" by going to acting schools or
coaches should be shown Kes as a lesson in how it should be done - it's
so good you have to remind yourself this is a film, not a documentary.
I would recommend this to anyone (although international viewers might
have problems understanding the dialect). A true classic.
