A Master At Work, 27 September 2005
9/10

This is a wonderful wonderful film, one of Chaplin's best.

His eye for a comic moment is superb, and this film is saturated with classic comedy moments, but it is Chaplin's physical presence, appearance and acting which make the film so good.

Don't get me wrong, it's extremely well directed and the supporting actors are good, but it is Chaplin which makes the ridiculous situations seem real, and his little touches such as his trousers being too big, which put the icing on the funny cake.

It's just a pity that this form of comedy seems to be a dying breed these days, but this film is one of my all time favourites, never a dull moment, always refreshing, and on each viewing I discover something new I didn't appreciate before.

An outstanding 9/10
