You don't have to worry about it being like Madagascar and Nemo, 7 April 2006

I went to the Premiere this weekend of THE WILD and I must say I was
pleasantly surprised. I was concerned about the same thing that
everyone else was.
Is it going to be like Madagascar mixed with the same theme as Finding
Nemo?
To my surprise I did not even once think about either of those films
while I was watching THE WILD. There were some great jokes and gags and
it had the pacing of a good action film. This movie is nothing like
either of those movies. I encourage everyone to see this movie for
themselves and am curious what they think of it. There is a couple plot
holes and weak story points. But other than those few moments it's a
fun film to watch. The look is refreshing because it doesn't look like
every other CG feature in the world. My final statement is this. Kids
will absolutely love it. And the parents will be entertained and won't
be bored.

Fun, funny and adolescent-friendly, 12 April 2006

Saw a preview screening last night, and it was really fun. First, the
movie is visually gorgeous. The texture (hair especially!) work alone
is enough to recommend the film to animation enthusiasts. To all the
comparisons with Madagascar I will add that The Wild is much funnier.
And judging by the 10-year-olds sitting with me, kids will love it. As
the movie was made by C.O.R.E. in Toronto, was directed by a Canadian,
and stars a lot of Canadians -- there are a few Canadian jokes (and
sports) in the movie that international viewers might miss. It also has
a fun self-referential attitude in the humor that's enjoyable without
becoming gimmicky. To build on the previous poster, it is not Citizen
Kane -- but has much funnier animals. It's a movie that does what it
sets out to do -- entertain you. And it does that very well.

The wild is definitely worth checking out, 11 April 2006

I know what many of you are thinking. How is this film going to be any
different from Madagascar. I have to be honest and say the two are
similar by premise only. Both films contain a group of animals escaping
the New York Zoo to go to the wild. That alone leaves plenty of room
for creativity and THE WILD accomplishes just that. I thoroughly
enjoyed this film from beginning to end. Its quite charming, full of
jokes, has an amazing attention to detail and visually stunning. I
actually found myself HOWLING at some parts of this film. Everyone at
the premiere came to a consensus that the wild is a great movie.
Children and parents were both laughing in hysterics. Plus the movie
includes morals and lessons to be learned for the kiddies. I understand
that many of you are reluctant to see this film given the timing. But I
urge you to give it a chance. It is worth your $10 dollars at the box
office, and you just might be surprised.

Mada-who now?, 12 April 2006

Its sad that this movie will not be able to escape the inevitable
comparisons to Madgascar, especially being that it is far more
original. Luckily though, it can easily be said with 100% confidence
that it comes out on top in virtually every way.
Going into the theater I tried to keep an open mind about the movie,
and I came out of the movie wanting to go right back in.
Eddie Izzard as Nigel the Koala was who I expected to steal the show
but much to my surprise I found myself loving Benny the Squirrel (Jim
Belushi) even more. Eddie clearly had a lot of fun with his ad-libbed
lines, but the animators clearly had a lot more fun animating the
spastic movements of a squirrel.
The effects are GORGEOUS. One cannot help but feel iffy when seeing
clips or screen shots, as the designs don't look like they can express
much emotion, but when you see them in action it is amazing.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who has an interest in
children's movies. The only complaint I have is that its too short.

Citizen Kane it is not. Nor is it Madagascar, thankfully. It seems to be
doing really well with critics, for what it is. A fun, great. family
film that with awesome graphics and enough adult humor to keep the
everyone in the family happy. I think Disney are on the right track
with this kind of film. Not every release needs to be in the pixar mold.
There should be room in animation for different styles/themes etc. If
there are similarities in "The Wild" to other films well, thats hardly
new. Can't wait to see it again. Hopefully it does really well. The
look of the film is fresh and exciting enough to stand up to the
majority of other releases. It should be an interesting race in the box
office this easter.

This is Citizen Kane compared to Chicken Little, 7 April 2006

This movie was presented to the Dutch press in a small viewing room,
but we sure got a good look at it. And really: this movie isn't bad at
all. But compared to Chicken Little everything looks great I suppose.
The bad thing about The Wild is the appearance of its characters. They
all look like they were borrowed from a toy store. That's probably good
for merchandise, but for the movie that's plain bad. In a time in which
even giant gorillas can make a believable performance thanks to CGI you
can wonder why Disney chose for this option.
The first 20 to 30 minutes, when all the action takes place in the zoo,
is very entertaining. There's a wonderful scene that involves curling
and the escape out of the zoo is big fun. But when the animals enter
the wild the movie becomes rather dull. The finale is okay though.
Of course people will compare this movie to the overrated Madagascar.
But because of the story - a young lion wants to be as cool as its
father - it resembles The Lion King more than the Dreamworks movie. So
here's the good news: I think that viewers who liked Madagascar, will
enjoy this movie too. It fills up the time until the real Disney
computer animated blockbuster of this year will be released: Cars.

Amazing Animation!!, 4 April 2006

I saw this movie and it was awesome! the effects blow "Finding Nemo"
and "Shrek" away....from the shot of the city down to the hairs on the
animals, every detail was carefully looked over...
Eddie Izzard's character is so funny and the humor is really grown up
and campy.....i didn't think there were any lulls in the storyline and
the movie went by almost too quickly...
We brought 2 kids with us (2 & 3) and here were some scary pars (the 3
year old covered his eyes by himself at one point) but they really
enjoyed the movie....when i asked them what i thought they High-Fived
me and told me they liked Samsone...too cute!
My bf and i are gonna see it again when it comes out with a bunch of
our friends...
WE LOVED IT!!
Brilliant Animation...A Great Escape For Kids And Adults Alike!, 13 April 2006

I was lucky enough to get tickets to a preview of this film last week.
I also initially wondered why they would copy Madagascar (which I
didn't find very good)...I came away with the realization that it's a
very different and way better movie with only the basic premise bearing
somewhat of a resemblance (not unlike many kid's films and the
"formula" that seems to be used).
I found the film hilarious and had a great time watching my kids get
such a kick out of it as well. The animation is absolutely incredible
and this was a great escape for me and my kids (10 and 7)...if I could
only get my 7 year old to stop continually quoting Nigel the Koala then
all would be well...
I read a few reviews which panned this flick. I wondered if they saw
the same movie we did and/or why an adult who wants to bring a kid for
a few laughs would listen to some of the negative crap that's been
written?! I would suggest that there is many a jaded movie critic out
there who may not appreciate this for what it really is (perhaps
they're taking their own "grown-up" opinions too seriously?)...a kid's
flick which just happens to appeal (thankfully) to the adults who are
brought along in tow. Either some of these reviewers have a different
political agenda or they're really out of touch with the audience
demographics a film like this is geared toward. You watch...You
decide...
This film was quite simply a blast! We hope you enjoy it as much as we
did!

What a waste of time, 12 April 2006

For Disney to be releasing such a similar movie to Madagascar a year
later on could turn out be be quite a disaster. From the opening shots
you want to yell "rip-off" at the screen. Sure the animation and voice
acting is well done but you can't shake the feeling that you've seen it
all before. Couldn't they have chosen a different zoo to the Ney York
Zoo? The plot is typical Disney and for such a short running time it
suits children under 7 as they will be able to sit through it and will
enjoy the occasional clumsy antics of the animals. There have been
several better animated films in the last few years and this one
shouldn't get the "classics" label. Skip it

I Saw IT, 16 February 2006

OK i went to a early screening of this at Disney tonight and i went in
with low expectations thinking well this i Disney's take on Madagascar.
Well Boy Was I wrong this movie has a great story good acting and a OK
script. The only thing i did not like was the fact that the animation
is a little weird because it looks like they are stuffed toys.
The Story is about these animals at a NY Zoo, One of the lions is a big
wig of the park from his story's about his days in the wild. His son
who is not upholding the family line because he can't Roar. SO feeling
like he dose not belong he jumps on a crate headed for lady liberty,
once his dad gets wind of this he goes after him with his best buds A
Garaffe a squirrel a Quayle bear and a snake. And they set off in to
the wild land of New York City.
the Script was overall funny but tried to hard to be funny with a few
mindless fart jokes but overall made me laugh.
The showed New York and times square it was cool to see the advertising
company's that no doubt payed good money to get in there: I.E.: Tivo,
Toys R Us, Quaker Oats, Coke and even Pepsi.
Well worth the time so go see it April 14!
7/10 stars
