Paltrow Has Baby Boy

Gwyneth Paltrow has given birth to a baby boy, her second child with singer Chris Martin. The actress welcomed the tot, a younger brother for 23-month-old Apple, at an unknown location over the weekend, Paltrow's representative has confirmed. The couple have named their son Moses, after a song Coldplay frontman Martin wrote for his wife and which appeared on the British band's Live 2003 album, according to reports. Paltrow only confirmed she was pregnant in January after months of speculation. At the same time the actress' mother Blythe Danner hinted the couple were planning another unusual name for their second child. She said, "We love unusual names in the family." Paltrow, 33, and Martin, 29, married in a secret ceremony in December 2003.

Clooney Lawsuit On Hold

The French lawsuit against Hollywood star George Clooney and Warner Brothers has been delayed until May 29 for procedural reasons. Clooney, who won Best Supporting Actor at this year's Academy Awards for his role in oil thriller Syriana, is being sued by screenwriter Stephanie Vergniault over allegations the film was copied. The Ocean's Eleven star claims to have drawn inspiration from CIA agent Robert Baer's book See No Evil, but Vergniault insists Clooney stole from her 2002 script called Oversight. Vergniault is demanding 35 per cent of the film's earnings in France and the United States. A Warner Bros spokesman has slammed her accusations as "without merit", adding, "We will defend our position in court."

Douglas "Apologizes" for Unfortunate Misquote

Michael Douglas has gone public to defend himself against comments he was credited as making about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's romance in a recent magazine article. The movie star reportedly poured scorn on the couple's relationship in style magazine GQ, posing the question, "I mean how long is that going to last?" Douglas now insists he was misquoted, and sat down with US news show Extra! to clear up the "unfortunate" matter. The Basic Instinct star says, "It was a lengthy article. (It) must have been 20 hours of tape recording, so I asked to hear the tape recording and the reporter said, Well, I turned the tape recorder off.' I said, 'Well you had it on for the whole time, so I didn't say it.'" Douglas admits that even though the quotes weren't his, he still wrote an apology to Brad and Angelina. He adds, "I consider him a good friend and she does wonderful work for the United Nations, which is what I'm also involved in. There's just a lot of pressure on the print media and they get to kind of exploitative quotes to try to attract people for their circulation, so it was unfortunate."

No New Trial for Blake

A California Superior Court judge has rejected a motion for a new trial in actor Robert Blake's civil wrongful death case. Last year, Blake was acquitted of murdering his wife Bonnie Lee Bakely in a criminal trial. In November, a jury in the civil suit brought by the victim's family found Blake was guilty of intentionally causing her death in 2001. In February, the Bakely family was awarded $30 million in damages in the wrongful death case. Bakely was found shot dead in the actor's car in May 2001, outside a Studio City, California restaurant where the couple had just dined.

Lopez Fights To Keep Ex-Husband Quiet

Jennifer Lopez has filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband Ojani Noa in a bid to show the former model she won't tolerate his plans to reveal all about her personal life in a new book. In court documents, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court yesterday and obtained by entertainment news website Tmz.com, Lopez claims Noa demanded $5 million from her to keep him from selling a tell-all book. The lawsuit states that Noa sent a letter to Lopez's attorney last year, in which the Cuban, a former manager of Lopez's Madre's restaurant in California, "declared his intention to continue to shop his proposed book and to obtain a publisher for the book." Lopez's attorneys received another letter from Noa earlier this year, claiming "he would not agree to refrain from marketing his book unless (Lopez) paid him a sum of $5 million." The lawsuit claims Noa made statements to the New York Post's Page Six column alleging Lopez had an affair with her current husband Marc Anthony while he was still married to Dayanara Torres.

Streisand Snubs 'Will & Grace'

Producers of hit sitcom Will & Grace were desperate for Barbra Streisand to guest star on the final episode of the series, but the legendary singer/actress repeatedly refused to appear. The sitcom is ending its nine year run in May and executives were keen to land Streisand for a special guest appearance as the sister of character Karen Walker, played by Megan Mullally. Show creator Max Mutchnick explains, "We made one last attempt to get Barbra Streisand to come on the show as Karen's sister, but there was no love there for us." Producers also approached Meryl Streep, who also declined, and eventually ended up casting actress Bernadette Peters in the role. Mullally adds, "Bernadette is amazing." The final episode in the series will be taped this week.

Ali Landry Weds in Mexico

Actress Ali Landry married film director Alejandro Gomez Monteverde on Saturday in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. This is Landry's second marriage. She wed Saved By The Bell star Mario Lopez in April 2004 before splitting after seven weeks of marriage. The 32-year-old actress reportedly met her new husband at Bible study last year and got engaged over Memorial Day weekend. Landry recently told Mexican news outlet Dolan Media Newswires, "He is so beyond amazing. And he's everything I thought was possible. He's creative, passionate and would love to help change the world. I respect him so much." Landry wore a strapless, ivory Monique Lhuillier drop-waist wedding gown with a sweetheart neckline and full ball gown skirt. The dress was made of hand-sewn layers of organza, tulle and chiffon. In keeping with the Mexican setting, she also wore a feathered bolero after the ceremony. Landry will appear in the film Bella, which Monteverde wrote, produced and directed.

Simpson Sued Over Fashion Snub

Actress/singer Jessica Simpson is being sued for $100 million by a clothing company, after she allegedly failed to promote their products as agreed. The Tarrant Apparel Group filed suit against the star at New York State Supreme Court last week. Dukes of Hazzard star Simpson reportedly signed a multi-million dollar three-year deal in 2004 to launch their range of bargain fashions but the company claims she didn't sport enough of their styles at "public events, shows and appearances." Simpson has yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Gervais Slams UK Entertainment Industry

British funnyman Ricky Gervais has hit out at his country's TV comedies and dramas, insisting they are lackluster and tired. The outspoken The Office creator is underwhelmed by UK television and believes it is created by a small group of conservative writers who look across the Atlantic for inspiration. He says, "It's different in America. They're ambitious, they're good, they're funny. They do stand-up, and by the time they're 31 they've got their own sitcom because they're good. You don't see many 40-year-old hack writers in America. They get fired if they're no good. It's like natural selection." Of US dramas, Gervais adds, "The Sopranos, 24, CSI, The Wire, bang! We've got nothing like that. Nothing! It's such a big gap. Comparing our celebrities to America is like comparing Blackpool to Las Vegas. It's division two."

'Charmed' Star Expecting Second Child

Charmed actress Holly Marie Combs is expecting her second child with husband David W. Donoho. The couple already have a two-year-old daughter, Lauralei. According to a spokesperson for the US WB network, "She's only a few months. She's not showing, so it won't affect production." The 32-year-old actress and her husband, who is a key grip on the show, will have plenty of time to spend with their growing family, as the series is filming its final episode this week.
