At a gala event broadcast live by SABC Africa on Saturday night, Translate.org.za was awarded the prize for the "Top Civil Society/NGO to bridge the digital divide in Africa". In this the year of African languages it is only appropriate that an organisation focussed on language in Africa should receive an award focussed on bridging the digital divide. The emphasis being on bringing technology up to speed with language, instead of the usual approach of making Africa adapt to technology. Dwayne Bailey, Managing Director of Translate.org.za, was present to receive the award. He challeged all present by saying that they had two choices. The first is to let technology mould them and in effect become the new colonialist, and the second, to take action and be proactive in ensuring that their mother tongues are used and supported in technology. And that they would know in the future when they sit and speak to their grandchildren, that they had made the correct choice. Translate.org.za would like to thank the sponsors of the event as well as our sponsors over the years who have made all that we have done possible. Remember "Localise or be Localised", the future of your language rests firmly in your hands
