Powerful, and in line with HBO's original series' mastery, 29 April 2006

Having awaited this show for two months after seeing the trailer late one night, I have to say that my original enthusiasm was not unfounded. This show centers around Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton) and his efforts to manage his life around the illegal practice of polygamy. His three wives provide the standard quirky character personalities that reinforce the potential reality of the story. Without giving too much away, part of the conflict that is inevitably present involves Bill's previous association with the United Effort Brotherhood, the polygamist sect of the Mormon church. I can't say enough about the wonderful acting and the gripping storyline. One of the emotions that stands out is frequent perfect recreation of tense and awkward moments. It's not a stretch to imagine that a small home improvement store owner in Utah could carry on a life not far from that depicted here. This show is a must watch that appeals to and intrigues audiences that a drama of this type would not normally entice.
