This was realistic view of life in nineteenth century midwest America. I was really impressed with Peter Strauss as the Dad. It seem he's been pidgeonholed as "Made for TV miniseries King" (Jacklyn Smith being the Queen). Most movies sugar coat life in those times. Some of the scenes almost brought tears to my eyes. Most of those "made for TV" movies seen on Lifetime are so sappy, but I got engrossed in this and it kept my interest throughout.
