The Department of Architecture is committed to excellence in design as a means of improving the quality of the built environment. Its population of around 50 staff (full - and part-time) and 400 students is located in a specially designed building at the heart of Strathclyde's city campus, which provides lecture rooms, design studios, a well-stocked reference library and three state-of-the-art computer laboratories.

The Graduate School offers a wide-ranging research portfolio and a varied set of advanced courses leading to degree or diploma qualification, taken either full-time or part-time.

Successful completion of any of the three starred (*) diploma courses described in this entry carries exemption from Part II of the professional examination of the Royal Institution of British Architects (RIBA) for those candidates whose prior qualifications make them eligible for such exemption.

Students may also register in the Graduate School for research degrees leading to an MPhil and PhD.

The current population of advanced course students and research students, serviced by some 20 staff, is around 110.
