The Internal Market and Services Directorate General (DG MARKT) is one of 37 Directorates General and specialised services which make up the European Commission. Its main role is to coordinate the Commission’s policy on the European Single Market, which aims to ensure the free movement of people, goods, services and capital within the Union. In its first ten years of existence (since 1 January 1993) the Single Market has created 2.5 million jobs and 877 billion euros of extra prosperity.

The Internal Market and Services DG is based in Brussels and has a staff of approximately 500, working under the political authority of Commissioner Charlie Mc Creevy and managed by Director General Jörgen Holmquist.
