JEAN MONNET CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE The ERI was designated a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in 1997, the first institution in Europe to receive this accolade from the European Commission. The Centre of Excellence is associated with the first two of the three Jean Monnet "chairs" awarded to the University of Bath and held by Dr Alan Butt Philip (JM Chair 1990 to date) and Professor Jolyon Howarth (JM Chair 1992 to date). In addition to the ERI's activities mentioned above, the Centre of Excellence acts as a cluster of expertise on aspects of European integration which is accessible to the university community and to individuals or organisations in the south-west of England. Funding for the activities of the Centre of Excellence is being provided by the EU Jean Monnet Project during the period 1997-2001. |
