INVERNAHAVON RELIC TO BE DEDICATED DURING THIS YEAR’S AUSTRALIAN CELTIC FESTIVAL AT GLEN INNES N.S.W.

All are invited to attend. For more information, email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The ancient battlefield of Invernahavon in the Central Highlands of Scotland is the site on which Clan Davidson first emerged into written history. Here they fought off the marauding Camerons, who had come raiding for cattle, in cooperation with their Clan Chattan allies the Mackintoshes and Macphersons. A small piece of Scottish granite, gathered from the field, was presented to the Clan Davidson Society in Australia Inc. (CDSA) by the Past President of the Clan Davidson Association, James Davidson of Tilliechetly, during the recent International Gathering of the Clan at Tulloch Castle. This memento is to become a relic in Australia signifying the clan’s ancient history.

An anonymous donor amongst our membership has covered the cost of setting the Invernahavon stone in the Australian Standing Stones Wall of History in Glen Innes, site of the annual Australian Celtic Festival. The relic will be identified by a brass plaque set beneath the stone, bearing the Davidson clansman’s badge and a small inscription. Clan Davidson already has a meeting point here – The Davidson Stone, number 21 in the array, which was sponsored by the Clan Society when the ring of stones was erected. The Davidson Stone has often served as a meeting point for the clan at this annual festival. It was in front of the Davidson Stone that the Inauguration Ceremony for our Chief, Jock Davidson of Davidston, was held in May 2000, before a large crowd with participants from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the U.K.

A number of clans have placed small relics from their clan homelands in the Wall of History, which stands on a hill overlooking the array of standing stones, and now Clan Davidson is to join their number. The dedication of the Invernahavon stone will be performed by Iain S. Davidson, Brisbane representative and Honorary Secretary of CDSA, during the Celtic Festival at Glen Innes on Sunday 4th May 2008.
