Newly formed Insyde Software Purchases BIOS Product Line from SystemSoft Corporation
Company to focus on meeting the increasing needs of mobile computer manufacturers for system-level software and design services
NATICK, Mass. - October 22, 1998 - Insyde Software today formally announces the establishment of the company with offices in Natick, MA and Taipei, Taiwan. With financial backing from private investors in the United States, Japan and Taiwan, Insyde Software acquired the BIOS assets from SystemSoft Corporation (NASDAQ: SYSF) including the BIOS/power management product line, intellectual property including applicable copyrights and will assume contracts from some of SystemSoft's previous BIOS customers.
Insyde Software develops and markets enabling system-level (BIOS) software that allows mobile PC manufacturers to design and ship timely and innovative mobile platforms without making significant investments in software engineering resources. Insyde Software's products and services also allow PC OEMs to reduce their time to market by providing fully featured and easily customized system level software, advanced development tools, and dedicated engineering consulting services.
"We are pleased to have finalized our acquisition of the SystemSoft BIOS," said Jonathan L. Joseph, president of Insyde Software (and former founder of SystemSoft). "During this transaction, we have managed to keep our most important asset in place, our employees, and with that have retained all of the valuable BIOS expertise, ongoing product development and customer relations intact as well," added Joseph.
Insyde Software's management team consists of Jeremy Wang, Chairman; Jonathan Joseph, President; Hansen Liou, General Manager Taiwan Operations and Asia-Pacific Sales and Stephen Gentile, Vice President of Marketing.
"This acquisition creates a new entity that with consistent focus on customer service and support and an appropriate investment in new product development is well positioned to grow its market share and achieve the revenue and profit goals we have set forth," said Jeremy Wang, chairman of Insyde Software. "Today's mobile computer OEM expects a strong commitment and long term partnership from its BIOS vendors. We are prepared to meet their needs," added Wang.
Insyde's Development Focus
Insyde Software will focus on developing BIOS, power management and associated firmware and development tools for Intel x86-based architecture mobile computers including embedded and hand-held computers such as data collection devices, point-of-sale terminals and personal communicators. Insyde Software's current product line includes:
- BIOS: advanced BIOS for the notebook & embedded/handheld markets that includes features such as PC98/99 compliance, ACPI, adaptive power management. Support for the industry leading chipsets and mobile PC silicon components are a fundamental part of the complete BIOS offering.
- Power Management: a suite of products that deliver longer battery life, flexibility in design and implementation, and consistency across multiple operating systems. Power Management products include APM 1.2 and ACPI support along with support for key mobile power states S0 - S5. In addition, Windows-based applications complement and extend the ROM-based products.
- Keyboard Controller Firmware: advanced firmware solutions for the latest mobile keyboard and embedded controllers.
- Development Tools: tools and utilities that save development time and costs by reducing OEM customizations through standardized development methodologies.
Examples include ACPI Builder and Keyboard Configuration Utility, both which reduce BIOS porting development and time to market.
"Insyde Software's strength lies in its expertise in assisting mobile computer manufacturers in the design of technologically advanced PCs through system-level software," said Stephen J. Gentile, Vice President of Marketing for Insyde. "While our competition is attempting to service all levels of PC platforms from hand-held computers to business servers, we feel that our customers will be served best by working with a purely mobile focused BIOS company," added Gentile.
"I am very excited to see the BIOS department of SystemSoft becoming an independent software company – Insyde Software," said Simon Tsai, President, Kapok, "The Insyde Software Taiwan engineering team has been successfully supporting Kapok's
BIOS requirements for a number of years. Kapok appreciates the aggressive engineering efforts they have done for us and looks forward to working with Insyde Software in the future."
