Alfred State College is a public, coeducational, two- and four-year, nonsectarian college of approximately 3,300 undergraduates. The College was founded in 1908 and joined the newly organized State University of New York (SUNY) system in 1948.
Alfred State is located in the beautiful Southern Tier, surrounded by lakes, ponds, wetlands, and state parks. Hike 15 minutes from campus and you arrive at the beautiful Alfred State Lake Lodge, a recreational complex where you can paddleboat, fish, swim, or camp. If you like to snowboard or downhill ski, Swain Ski Center is nearby. Alfred State is 70 miles south of Rochester and 90 miles southeast of Buffalo. CampusesAlfred State College includes two campuses-one located in the village of Alfred, and the second located approximately 15 miles from Alfred in the village of Wellsville. Both campuses feature a high degree of wireless internet access. In fact, Intel ranked Alfred State 21st in the Nation’s Top 50 Wireless Campuses.
The 150-acre Alfred campus includes students studying in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as the School of Management and Engineering Technology. The campus is centered on an "academic core:" those buildings which house classrooms, labs, faculty offices, and student services. Surrounding the academic structures are 13 residence halls, including a new townhouse and an activities center.
The School of Applied Technology consists of more than 20 buildings on a 21-acre campus in Wellsville. Emphasizing the development of skills pertinent to a specific field, the School of Applied Technology offers the associate degree in occupational studies (AOS) as well as certificate programs. Students live on the Alfred campus and free transportation is provided to Wellsville each day.
In addition to the two campuses, the College also includes an 800-acre college farm, a horticulture center, and a motorsports facility.
