Enya's Basic Details:
Enya was born Eithne N Bhraonin on May 17, 1961 in Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland. She is one of nine children, and the family was quite musical. Enya's brothers and sisters began playing music together as children, and in the early 1980s, they officially came together in the Celtic group Clannad, who enjoyed much success.Enya's Solo Career:
Enya left Clannad in 1982, and in 1987, she released her first solo album, Enya, produced by Nicky Ryan. However, it was 1988's album Watermark that contained the song that would make Enya famous, "Orinoco Flow" (also called "Sail Away"). This song became a hit in England and throughout the world.Enya's Songs in Movies:
Enya's music, with its soft and ambient sound, often works well in movies, and her songs have subsequently been featured in movies like L.A. Story, Toys, Green Card, and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Enya was not, however, the singer who provided the music for Titanic; that was Norwegian vocalist Sissel.Enya's Languages:
Enya's songs are written by Roma Ryan (wife of producer Nicky Ryan). Enya sings primarily in English, Latin and Irish, but also in Japanese, Spanish, French, Welsh and even Loxian, a language invented by Roma Ryan herself. Enya also sings songs in languages that were invented by J.R.R. Tolkien.Enya In Concert:
Though Enya has performed a number of times on television shows and awards ceremonies, she has never performed a full-length concert, possibly due to the logistics of the fact that most of her music is heavily produced, layered and tracked, and would not "work" in a live setting.Enya Starter CDs:
