A Catalyst for Change

Rarely in the history of this country has such promising opportunities existed before American Muslims to become catalysts for positive change. Compelled by such an environment, we, a group of American Muslim leaders, came together to form Muslims for Peace, Justice, and Progress (MPJP).

Our main goals are the following:

  1. To work towards the common interests and welfare of both America and the Muslim world.
  2. To promote conflict resolution and constructive engagement that can offer diplomatic alternatives to military engagement.
  3. To help to raise a moderate and effective voice that can invalidate bigotry and extremism at the same time.
  4. To work against Islamophobia and the negative stereotypes of Muslims in the West, and to help uplift the image and position of Muslims and their respective work in America and beyond.
  5. To engage with Muslim-majority societies to promote people-to-people dialogue.
  6. To help to consolidate our diverse community towards a visionary leadership.

Unity in Diversity

Unity in diversity has achieved great things in the past, and it can do it again for the Muslims. Our legitimacy and momentum can come only from a united front. Unity does not mean resolving all the issues and dissolving all the differences of a diverse group such as ours. What it necessitates is working together on the basis of our commonalities. And we DO have compelling common interests. The Muslim world is clamoring for economic and social transformations that can provide for a fast-growing young generation around the world, justifiably frustrated and restless about the way their societies are managed. Dangerous possibilities may lurk on the horizon, and the potential for untold human misery demands a forceful and courageous leadership. In addition, Western Muslims are victims of ‘Islamophobia’ and absurdly negative stereotypes, and this pattern is going to continue unless and until they can establish that they are a positive, loyal, and vibrant group of Western citizens who are peacemakers in our time. MPJP is dedicated to achieving these paramount goals in our timee.

In all societies undergoing upheaval, there exists a primordial period immediately subsequent to political and economic transitions. In this period, the future is uncertain. Key factors and events in this period can end up dictating the affairs of nations for decades to come. Read more »
