Friendship Cities
The government of the Democratic Republic of East Timor has established a number of "friendship cities" primarily with Australian munipical cities, in recognition of the historical link between Australia and East Timor established during the second world war. Friendship Cities is provides an one ideal way where local communities and community organisations in Municipal Cities can interact with Districts and Sub-Districts in Timor-Leste. Friendship City arrangements are governemed by a Memorandum of Understanding between the Mayor of the appropriate city and the Director of Consular Affairs.
Friendship Cities have been established with the following localities:
