Chirac’s new challenge

The French electorate voted overwhelmingly to re-elect Jacques Chirac as president for another five years. But Mr Chirac knows the reason for his massive victory was to defeat the National Front leader, Jean-Marie Le Pen. And with parliamentary elections barely a month away, the French political establishment’s battle against Mr Le Pen is not yet over
