GETTING TO SAN FRANCISCO

BY AIR
San Francisco San Francisco International (SFO)  — 15 miles south of the city of San Francisco.

Oakland International Airport (OAK) — 20 miles east of the city of San Francisco.
Airlines that fly into OAK include Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, Delta, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Norwegian, Sata, Southwest, Spirit, US Airways, and Volaris, among others.

Airport Ground Transportation
Both SFO and OAK have easy access to San Francisco via BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), cab, shuttle, or rental car.

BY CAR
From Points South
Both Highway 101 North and Interstate 280 North go directly into San Francisco. From these, you can access downtown and any other part of the city. It is also possible to take the beautiful Highway 1 north along the coast; Highway 1 merges with I-280 just south of San Francisco.

From Points North
Highway 101 South runs directly from the north over the Golden Gate Bridge (toll bridge) and into San Francisco. More inland, Interstate 5 South and Interstate 80 West meet in Sacramento; from there, follow I-80 West until you cross the Bay Bridge (toll bridge), which goes directly into San Francisco.

BY TRAIN
If you are travelling from outside the Bay Area, both Caltrain and Amtrak have service directly to San Francisco.
Within the Bay Area, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) lines go directly to several stops in downtown San Francisco.
 

GETTING AROUND SAN FRANCISCO

Transit 511 is the best resource for public transportation around San Francisco.
San Francsico Municipal Transportation Agency (Muni) provides bus, light rail, cable car, and historic streetcar service throughout the city. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) serves downtown San Francisco and the Mission District (just down the hill from the Castro Theatre), and shares downtown stations with Muni light rail lines.
