Special Collections rare books comprise a wide range of printed material that are considered irreplaceable, valuable and provide information not found in other works. These books require special protection and are restricted in their use due to their extreme fragility and uniqueness.
Manuscripts
Special Collections manuscript collection contains records, documents, correspondences, business papers, etc. of individuals, organizations, or of a specialized topic. Contact Special Collections for help locating collections or resources.
Some notable collections include:
- The papers of Millard Fillmore: The Millard Fillmore Papers include financial records, legal documents, speeches, writings and notes, newspaper clippings, ephemera, maps, and miscellaneous materials. The largest portion of this collection is correspondence. 1817-1889
- Dr. Mary Walker Collection: an Oswego native who served as a surgeon during the Civil War and was the first woman awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for Meritorious Service
- Columbia Mills Records: textile manufacturer in Minetto, NY, 1879- 1976. During WWII Columbia Mills provided camouflage material for the war effort and later was the largest Venetian blind manufacturing plant in the world
- The Marshall family papers: a prominent family who settled in Central and Western New York, that also include the papers of Erastus Granger (1765-1825), an early Federal Indian agent and Democratic political figure in Western New York.
