Barbara Mori's latest film has encountered problems with the Indian censor board. The Mexican actress, who made her Indian cinema debut opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kites, will be seen next in La Mujer De Mi Hermano (My Brother's Wife). A source for Mid Day said that the film, which releases in both Hindi and English, faced cuts from the censors. "The Spanish version has frontal nudity and a lot of intimate lovemaking (more)

Reviewer:James van Maanen Rating (out of 5):*** If cinema reflects the state of its country of origin, and I believe it always does, then things are not looking up for Mexico, nor have they in all of my lifetime (Bunuel was not imagining things with his darkly imaginative creations). Scratch a Mexican movie and -- unless it's a nitwit romantic comedy or something on the order of the soap-opera slushy, Latin American co-productionLa Mujer de mi hermanothat was released here a few years back -- you're likely to have your nose rubbed in heavy-duty class divisions, with the nasty rich struggling to hold onto everything they have, while the poor and would-be upwardly mobile, hardly much better, are scrambling to pull themselves up by their crap-infested bootstraps. Nothing changes and everything looks grim -- though it's often brought to life with great style. (SeeNicotinafor a dose of that style.

Barbara Mori's latest picture has not been released in India due to Kites's poor box office figures, according to reports. The Mexican actress made her debut in Kites alongside Hrithik Roshan but the film was not a hit with Bollywood audiences. Her new Spanish movie La Mujer De Mi Hermano (My Brother's Wife), which has been dubbed in Hindi and English, will now apparently not be released in India because of the Kites failure. Yesterday I posted a trailer for the Bollywood film Kites, which opens today all over the planet on the same day it also opens in India: it’s an attempt to drum up some love outside India and Indian ex-pat communites among mainstream moviegoers for the movies that are often seen by more people than many Hollywood films... though only inside India. Bollywood certain makes more films in any given year than Hollywood does, but so far, not one of them has captured the attention of non-Indian audiences around the world the way that Hollywood films cross cultural barriers. So, here comes Kites, which is not exactly a traditional Bollywood film to start with. From a press release about the film: Produced on an epic scale, and set primarily against the lavish backdrop of Las Vegas, Kites tells the story of two star-crossed lovers who are destined to be together

On Tuesday 18th May the stars of one of the most ambitious and truly international films to emerge from India will bring a touch of Bollywood romance, Latino passion and Hollywood action-adventure to the Red Carpet outside Odeon West End, Leicester Square, London. Kites is the widest ever release for any Indian film production to date and heralds a new milestone in international filmmaking. The film is directed by Anurag Basu (Life in a Metro, Gangster), one of the most forward-thinking directors to emerge from India, fearless in his vision of breaking the conventions associated with Indian filmmaking. Kites stars Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan (Jodhaa Akbar, Koi…Mil Gaya) - one of India's most idolised artists - who sets screens ablaze with the on-screen chemistry he shares with smoldering Mexican beauty, Barbara Mori (La Mujer De Mi Hermano, Violanchelo), the South American screen icon who has been creating waves across the international film circuit.

There are so many items in this press release that you wouldn't normally see paired together. First we have Brett Ratner lending his name and expertise to a Bollywood production that was filmed in the U.S. And then we have Mark Urman’s Paladin distribution label on board. - There are so many items in this press release that you wouldn't normally see paired together. There might be some bling to make out of Kites: The Remix -- if they push it the Big Fat Greek Wedding way -- cater first and foremost to the communities that spend their entertainment dollars on Bollywood films and then worry about lassoing other demos. Kites gets a remix In what will be the widest ever release for any Indian 'Bollywood' production, Kites, the eagerly anticipated romantic adventure starring Hrithik Roshan and Bárbara Mori, will open globally, including the U.S. and Canada, on May 21st, day and date with its Indian release. The Rakesh Roshan production, directed by Anurag Basu, will be released by Reliance Big Pictures on more than 2000 screens simultaneously, including over 200 in the States. Shot completely on location in Las Vegas, Sante Fe and Los Angeles, Kites is a unique 'Bollywood' film in a number of ways, not the least of which is the fact that a reworked English language version, designed to extend the reach of the original, will be launched in select engagements one week later.
