British Mathematical Colloquium

British Mathematical Colloquium

The British Mathematical Colloquium consists of three days of mathematics with no dogs and no wives.
Henry Whitehead

The British Mathematical Colloquium is the largest pure mathematical conference to be held annually in the UK. It has been held every year since 1949, usually around Easter, though some of the earlier meetings were in September. The venues of the different conferences are given below.

There were talks on each of the three mornings of the conference and a plenary session, usually by a well-known figure, each evening.
From 1994 onwards there were some Special Sessions which each concentrated on a particular area of mathematics

Minutes of the general and committee meetings are available for many of the colloquia.
From 1997 onwards the organisation was handled differently and a Scientific Committee was set up.
From 2004 onwards this committeee met twice a year.
If the year is followed by [ G ] then the minutes of the General meeting are available;
if it is followed by [ G , C ] then the minutes of both the General meeting and the Committee meeting are available;
if it is followed by [ G , SC ] then the minutes of the General meeting and the Scientific Committee meeting(s) are available.
You may see these minutes by clicking on the G, C or SC. The minutes are also linked to the page for that year.

Other memoranda and correspondence about the BMC are linked from the page for each year.

Alphabetical lists of the speakers are available:
