I have a working proof-of-concept implementation in https://github.com/Stackdriver/metadata-agent/blob/master/src/http/, but never had a chance to clean it up and push it upstream. It's on my TODO list.

I haven't had a chance to contribute the above back yet, sorry. Since that code is open-source, someone with more time is welcome to try submitting it upstream.
