India/Tags/Highway/Road signs
This page documents guidance for tagging road signs in India. India is a signatory to the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals, and road signs in India largely resembles those in the United Kingdom. Nonstandard custom signage (often hand-painted) are common. Standard road signs in India are defined in the Book of Road Safety Signage and Signs by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Code of Practice of Road Signs by the Indian Roads Congress. Messages in signs are generally in English, and may be accompanied by a translation into Hindi or a recognised regional language depending on state or union territory. Standard typefaces used on signs are Arial for English text in most signs, Transport for English text in direction signs, and Utsaah for Devanagari text.
