Wikimania@20: Inclusivity . Impact . Sustainability .

Wikimania is the annual conference that brings together the global community of volunteers who build and maintain Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. It's a unique, multi-day gathering filled with discussions, training, workshops, and celebrations of the free knowledge movement. The conference is organized by Wikimedians, for Wikimedians, with support from the Wikimedia Foundation.

Like free knowledge projects themselves, Wikimania is global in essence. The annual conference has taken place in more than 15 different countries, on 6 different continents to date.

The 20th edition of Wikimania will take place from 6–9 August 2025 in Gigiri, Nairobi, Kenya. Pre-conference activities will take place on 5 August, including a one-time pre-conference event for users with extended rights.

The gathering will happen at multiple venues throughout Gigiri, a small and easily navigable neighborhood, to allow participants an opportunity to be immersed in the local culture and experience the local culture and the warmth of Kenyan hospitality. Wikimania will be hybrid, offering both in-person and virtual participation.

For the first time, Wikimania will be hosted in East Africa, organized by hosted by Wikimedia volunteers and user groups of East Africa (EARTHub) and the Wikimedia Foundation. Meet the organising team!

This year, the in-person capacity will be slightly lower, so we recommend registering early to guarantee your spot. Registration opens in May 2025, so keep your eye out!
