determined (Carol 1953)
First in a series of five photos of my mother entered in the 2025 Many Faces of Mom contest. Here is the second entry in that series.
Before she was a mom she was a world-class figure skater, finishing 3rd in ice dancing with her partner Dan at the World Championships in 1952 and 1953; they also won several gold, silver, and bronze medals in the U.S. and North American Championships 1951-53. The discipline, courage, determination, stamina, confidence, and joy it required of her to reach the top were qualities that also made her a wonderful mother.
