Hymn Praising the Avadhut

Om Nitynandya guruve iya-sasra-hrie Bhakta-kryaika-dehya Namaste cit-sad-tmane


Salutations to Nityananda, the Guru, who rescues his disciples from transmigration; who has assumed a body to meet the needs of devotees; whose nature is Consciousness and Existence.

Avininam tmana hyeka vijya tattvata Vta-rga-bhaya-krodha nitynanda nammyaham


"Indestructible is the Self, for it is One;" having known this truth, He is free from attachment, fear and anger; to that Nityananda, I bow.

Nirvsana nirkka sarva-doa-vivarjitam Nirlamba nirtaka Sr nitynanda nammyaham


Free from desires, free from expectations, purged of all defects, independent and fearless; to that revered Nityananda, I bow.

Nha deho na me deho jva nham-aha hi chita Eva vijaya santua nitynanda nammyaham
"I am not the body, nor is the body mine; I am not a bound soul, for I am Consciousness; Thus reflecting, he is content; to that Nityananda, I bow.

Nirmama nirahakra sama-loma-kchanam Sama-dukha-sukha dhra avadhta nammyaham


Free from possessiveness, free from egoism, regarding as the same a clod, a stone and gold; Even-minded in happiness and sorrow, all-enduring; to that Avadhut, I bow.

Samasta kalpan-matra hytm mukta santana Iti vijaya santpta avadhta nammyaham
"The entire universe is only a mental construct; for the Self alone is free and eternal; Thus reflecting, he is satisfied; to that Avadhut, I bow.

Jngni-dagdha-karma Kma-sakalpa-varjitam Heyopdeya-hina ta avadhta nammyaham


His deeds burnt up by the fires of Realization; purged of desire and ambition; Free from the need to accept or reject; to that Avadhut, I bow.

Nityam jgrad-avasthya svapna-vadyo'vatihate Nichinta chinmaytmna nityanandam nammyaham


Always in the waking state, he abides like one asleep; Free from anxiety, his mind of the nature of Pure Consciousness; to that Nityananda, I bow.

Svabhvrnaiva yo yog sukaha bhoga na vachati Yadcch-lbha-santua avadhta nammyaham


Possessing the innate disposition of a yogi; he does not long for pleasure and enjoyment; He is contented with whatever comes unsought; to that Avadhuta, I bow.

Dvea nsti priya nsti nsti yasya ubh-ubham Bheda-jna-vihna ta avadhta nammayham
To him, none is hateful, none is dear, for him there is no good and bad; Free from the knowledge of difference; to that Avadhut, I bow.

Naiva nind-praasbhy Yasya vikryate mana tma-kram mahtmna nitynanda nammyaham


Not even by blame or praise is his mind perturbed; sporting in the Self, great-souled; to that Nityananda I bow.

Jaa payati no yastu jagat-payati chinmayam Nitya-yukta gutta Sadgurum nammyaham


To him, nothing is insentient, the whole world is filled with Consciousness; Joined with the Eternal, having passed beyond the gunas; to that Sadguru I bow.

Yo hi darana-mtrea pavate bhuvana-trayam Pvana jagama trtha nitynanda nammyaham


By his mere glance, He purifies the three worlds; He is the movable, the immovable, and all holy places; to that Nityananda, I bow.

Nitynandya gurave iya-sasra-hrie Bhakta-kryaika-dehya Namaste cit-sad-tmane


Salutations to Nityananda, the Guru, who rescues his disciples from transmigration; who has assumed a body to meet the needs of devotees; whose nature is Consciousness and Existence.

Sarva-pjya sad pra hyakhananda-vigraham Sva-praka chid-nanda Sr nitynanda nammyaham


An object of worship for all, forever perfect, an embodiment of bliss, indivisible, Shining by his own light, reveling in blissful Consciousness; to that revered Nityananda I bow.

Nikala nikriya nta nirmal parammtam Ananta jagada dharam hyavadhta nammyaham
Undivided, performing no actions, calm, spotless, supremely nectarine, The eternal support of the universe; to that Avadhut I bow.
