Problem Analysis:
Sample module: EKI-1222
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Utility Version: Advantech Serial Device Server Configuration Utility 1.67

Step by Step by - Solution:


Step1: Automatic finding device

Note1: When we cannot EKI-1222, and open utility; the device will show up
automatically.
Note2: If you are using Windows 7 32/64-bit, please open utility with Administrator.
(Click utility icon, right click to start as Administrator)
Step2: IP address configuration

Note1: Select the IP mode; Static IP or Auto IP. Normally, we suggest Static IP. You
must have DHCP/Bootp server to use other IP mode.
Note2: Assign an IP and subnet for device module.

Step3: Port configuration

Note1: Basic to setting 232/422/485 mode, and COM port configuration.


Note2: Here shows the pin assignment information of serial port.
Note3: Operation to setting operation mode; if want to connect to slave
MODBUS/RTU device, please select Modbus Slave Mode.
Note4: Scan Slave ID or Add device manually.
1) Scan ID

2) Add ID

If it cannot scan ID automatically, we can add ID manually.


If we use MODSIM to simulate a MODBUS device, we need set up MODSIM first
before we scan it. Please refer to Step5.
Step4: After we finished IP and COM port setting, we must click Apply to save
configuration.

Step5: MODSIM Set Up and MODSCAN Query


1) Open ModSim32 File New

2) Set up MODBUS simulated data


3) Connection Connect Port

Here I select Port 2, it depends on which serial port of PC you want to connect
to EKI-1221.
4) Set up the communication configuration OK

5) Open the MODSCAN Set up the data format

6) Connection:
Connect Using: TCP server, IP Address: EKIs IP, Service Port = 502
MODBUS/TCP service port normally is 502
7) Connecting

8) When connect successful, we can see there are start access data on ModScan.
When we connect successful, we can the check LED or EKIs TX and RX.
LEDs should be blink during data access.
ModSim and ModScan are not only simulate tool for MODBUS
communication, we can still use other standard MODBUS tool.
