Amancio Ortega Gaona was born in 1936 in Spain and had his first job at age 15 making clothes by hand. He married Rosalia Mera, his first business partner, and with her started their business from scratch. Amancio Ortega Gaona was born on march 28, 1936 in Busdongo de

Arbas, Leon. The economy of his family wasn't doing well. Before he
was 15 year old he had gotten his first job in company called gala
where he learned to make clothes by hands.
He was married with Rosalia Mera who became in his first business
partner. They had to start from scratch their business. He had opened
the first zara store in 1975, before he opened a store called Goa which
sold dressing gown. In 1988 Ortega opened the first zara shop in
Portugal, where he found the working force to be even cheaper than
in Spain. In 1989, zara shop was opened in the USA, and it was
introduced in London in 1998. The Inditex Corporation has become a
global fast fashion retailer located in 88 countries.
Amancio Ortega's business, which has made his net worth, includes
not only fashion, but also some additional investments, such as gas,
banks, tourism, and worldwide real estate holdings. Inditex share's
price increasing constantly.
According to forbes magazine, he is currently the richest person in
Europe and the second richest in the world with an estimated net
worth of 83,4 billion. Ortega keeps a very low profiles and is known for
his preference for a simple lifestyle.
Until 1999, no photograph of Ortega had ever been published.
He is the owner of Spanish soccer team Deportivo La Coruna.
Since he stepped down as chairman in 2011 speculation has grown
that his daughter Marta Ortega Perez; who started her inditex career
as a salesperson, someday she will manage the company.
