ANS- INDUSTRIAL RELATION POLICIES-The policies which are undertaken


in order to promote welfare of the workers and also economic prosperity of the
nation. It comprises of the laws, duties and labour union obligations. It can be
also defined as relationship between the employees and the employers which
forms a union.
Industrial relation policies are concern with the settling of various disputes by
collective bargaining, conciliation, arbitration etc. Various industrial actions are
taken if the workers don’t come to work or refuses to perform the task.

TATA GLOBAL BEVERAGES-


Tata global beverages Pvt. ltd. is an Indian multinational company which is
headquartered in Kolkata, India. It is also a subsidiary of Tata Group and
categorised as world’s second largest manufacturer and a distributer of tea.
The various policies of Tata Global Beverages are:
1.Policy for equal opportunity employer-The policy that states that there is no
discrimination based on race, caste, religion etc. While recruiting or promoting
,the company decides based on the performance, merit and potential.

2.Dignity and respect-The company has fair and disciplinary procedures for the
employee’s right’s to be heard.

3.Policy of Freedom of associations.

4.Sustainibility and corporate social responsibility policy.


CASE- The case happened on 9th august 2009,a pregnant lady worker named
Mrs. Aarti Oraon collapsed while working on the field. The case was happened
in Jalpaiguri. As the lady was 8 months pregnant but she was denied maternity
leave even after applying several times. She was not even provided with the basic
medical facilities after she collapsed. No transport facility is provided to her and
she was taken to the hospital in a garbage tractor.The various effects that the lady
undergone are:
1. 8 women who took the lady to the hospital were suspended along with Mrs.
Aarti.
2. Arrest warrant for Mrs. Aarti was declared for theft and criminal
intimidation.
3. Protest against the company was done by the 500 workers.
4. Lockout was declared for 4 months.
5. Agreement was signed in front of the minority with trade unions which
resulted in second lockout.
6. As a result of lockout the employees had to face extreme conditions.
7. All the employees were denied wages.
8. The condition was so worse that emergency ration was distributed.
Trade unions raised their voice and asked for:
1.Withdrawel of FIR against Mrs. Aarti
2.Clearing of wages.
3.To allow the suspended workers back.
As a result of collective bargaining:
1.Payment to all the workers are employed.
2.Management had to make a cash payment to Mrs. Aarti for her children.
3.The 2 workers who are dismissed from their job are given compensation.
4.A joint management meeting was held to resolve grievances and raising
awareness on maternity benefits and protection.
So, according to me collective bargaining is the right method that employees used
in order to get their rights. And the incident also forced the top management to
make policies on various rights for women.
Lipton pvt. Ltd-
Lipton is a British brand of tea which is owned by the company unilever. Lipton
was also a supermarket chain in United States.
The policies of lipton pvt. Ltd. are:
1.Policy of employment
2.Policy of safety
3.Policy of governance structure

CASE-The case was about 8,000 workers were employees in lipton tea factory.
As they are hired through contract labour agencies so they are considered as
temporary workers. The workers are not provided with any medical leave and
also deprived from their bargaining power and also they couldnot join union of
unilever workers and also their salary is one-third of the salary. So, workers
protested against the issues. Union filled a complaint with the organization for
economic cooperation and development to hold the company for denying the
basic rights to the majority of the workers through subcontracting. The action
committee was formed in order to resolve the issue.The settlement was done and
the company created 120 new permanent positions at the plant.
So, due to collective bargaining various policies are laid down in the company
and this case has become a benchmark.
