Statistics: Chapter 3 & 4 Describing Data

This document provides sample data and questions to practice describing data through various statistical analysis techniques including stem-and-leaf plots, determining the median, quartiles, interquartile range, outliers, box plots, skewness, empirical rule, mean deviation, and Chebyshev's rule. It includes sample data on test scores and incomes and asks the reader to analyze the data and answer questions related to describing and summarizing the distributions.

C) Determine the first quartile.
D) Determine the third quartile.
E) What is the interquartile range?
F) Beyond what point is a value considered an outlier?
G) Identify any outliers.
H) Develop the box plot.
I) Determine the skewness of the box plot.

2. The mean income of a group of sample observations is $500.

The standard deviation is $50.

A) According to the Empirical Rule, at least what percent of the incomes will lie between
$400 and $600?
B) According to Chebyshev, at least what percent of incomes will lie between $420 and
