Advance Statistics Project Guidance

The projects will use data you find yourself, doing analysis of your choice using
techniques of your choice from the class. The techniques must be sufficient to
demonstrate mastery: histogram analysis by itself is not sufficient. The amount of
effort should be roughly equivalent to one of the class homework assignments, and
is worth 15% of the course grade.

Class Presentation (3/15 pts): This will be a 4-5 minute powerpoint presentation
that shows the following:

• You have located a data set and have begun to work with it

• You have an objective that is testable

• You have an approach to reaching your objective, and outline it.

Due date: May 14.

Project Report (12/15): This will be in electronic format (MS word or equivalent)
explaining the techniques used, and showing the results. The methods and results
must be explained fully and clearly; this is not a homework problem where your
audience can be expected to be familiar with the problem.

Plots, images, and text are expected to be at least 5 pages but no more than 10 pages
long.

Due date: May 21.
