Chapter 1
The Book Of Secrets

Synopsis: The scene is set in Australia, 2 brothers and their

friend from Perth are passionate about musics and
literatures. Tim has not seen her childhood friend Britania
for a very long time and organises a party in his honour.
The young woman is a painter artist. This she is back from
a trip from Spain for her holidays. She finds a strange book
at her friend' s place.
The brothers Scott are falling under the spell of the
mysterious young woman.

STAGE 1: Serial 1 Scene Breakdown/Outline (expanded from

beat sheet)

2 children including a little boy and a little girl going to sit on a stranded tree
trunk near a lake. The boy holds a book in his hand, he opens it:

LITTLE BOY
This is the story of two brothers who fall in love with the same girl

LITTLE GIRL
Ah yes, a girl how?

LITTLE BOY
A girl as pretty as you.

LITTLE GIRL
Does she love them ? How look likes theses boys?

LITTLE BOY
Listen.

LITTLE GIRL
Do you want a candy ?

LITTLE BOY
Not now, after.

The little boy opens the book, turns the pages, and scrolls through the names of

The little boy begins to tell the story, his fingers running over the letters, the
little girl eating his lollipop listens attentively. The next page that the little boy
turns is the continuation of the Film.

EXT. HYDE PARK - NIGHT

[Opening Credit] Intro musique [ Style Celtic The Mystic's Dream by Loreena
Mckennitt ] and Lysander’s voice in Background. He describes the meeting of
Britania who turned his life upside down him and of his brother. The camera
flies over the place like a bird. ( drone )

[ Moonlight. Seen on Hyde Park and on the lake, a few birds crisscross in the
park. The square is peaceful and enchanting. ]
LYSANDER’S VOICE
When Britania appeared in our lives. Things were no longer the same.
She turned lives Puck and I upside down. Like pawns on a chessboard we were
handled. Both of us love her and have become cursed and charmed.

INT. TIM’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

The scene takes place at Tim’s place in the chillout lounge. The atmosphere is
friendly. Lysander is playing chess with Tim in the chillout lounge. Full of
books, some musical instruments and art objects surround the decor. Lysander
Scott meet Britania for the 1st time. She's look likes a living doll, pretty, kind
and smiling. They are talking about great authors and musics. Tim's books
collection attracts the curiosity of Britania.

[ Music in the background from Tim’s laptop ]

TIM
Checkmate

LYSANDER
You still win.

[ Tim gets up, lights an incense and a candle ]

TIM
What’s up so far Britania ?

[ Britania, not answering him right away, looks dreamy. Listening the music that
rocks her. ]

BRITANIA
I study in an Art Design School in Salamanque. I’ve lived there for 3 years.

TIM
When we were children you wanted to live there. You told me back then, you
did it.
That’s great you were able to move there. You speak very well Spanish now.
[ Tim is very smiling, he is very happy to welcome her friend ]

BRITANIA
Podemos decirlo así. Me alegra estar aquí.

TIM
What does it mean ?

BRITANIA
We can say this. I’m glad to be here.

TIM
This is a really nice language anyway. Awesome.

[ Lysander, looking admiring of her. His dream is to live there, takes some
Flamenco music lessons to improve his skills ].

LYSANDER ( to BRITANIA )
Just like you, I would like to live in Spain, takes music lessons to improve my
skills.

[ This language make funs Lysander, He knows a few words. He takes off his
hat, holds out his glass and drinks it. ]

LYSANDER
Podemos decirlo así. Salud mis queridos amigos !

[ Once the glass finished, takes on his hat. ]

[ Britania looks at him smiling, giving him an encouraging sign to congratulate

him on his sentence. She gets up and walks in the living room watching the
books. Meanwhile Tim and Lysander are comfortably seated. ]

TIM ( to LYSANDER )
What about Puck ? Why couldn't he comes tonight ?

LYSANDER
He stays with his fiancée.
Do you know they will soon get married?
TIM
No. Awesome. It doesn't really surprise me at the same time. They have always
been inseparable.

LYSANDER
True.

TIM
Can you make it back to him next time. I found it really fascinating. ( Book A
Midsummer Night’s Dream by W.S )

[ He picks the book on the shelf, give him and goes back to sit ]
LYSANDER
Alright. What are you reading right now ?

[ By consulting Tim's library, Britania lets down a dusty book from the shelf
clumsily. This one attracts his attention, she pick it up to the ground and open it.
The writing inside is very old and hard to decrypt, followed by strange
symbols, illustration on the druids and other Celtic Creatures. ]

TIM ( to LYSANDER )
The psychology of love by Sigmund freud. Did you know where comes from
the desire feeling ?

BRITANIA ( answers right away instead of Lysander, continuing to observe the

library )
Desire is the desire for a lack. Desire lies between need and demand, it is hidden
between both: need is conscious as well as demand, but desire is unconscious.
As for envy, it is the conscious result of unconscious desire.

TIM ( Passionately )
Exactly. In other words,
Love said to be transference is in the same vein:
Recognise that desire has no object to satisfy it, even if there is an object that
satisfies the
cause.

[ Lysander sound likes a bit frustrated, it’s too much intellectual for him ]

LYSANDER
Alright.

BRITANIA ( to TIM )
Did you decrypt theses passages inside ?

TIM
I didn’t take the time to figure out about it. Ruby left it when she’s gone.

LYSANDER ( resuming discussion, The Freud book in this hand )

That's explains your interest by Freud right now.
Did she break up? ( awkwardly )

TIM
Theoretically, we haven't broken up. She left overnight without any reason.
Which is not quite the same thing.

LYSANDER
That’s insane. I didn't want to bring up the past. Sorry.

TIM
Never mind. Yes it’s the past now.

BRITANIA
How did she get it?

TIM
Pardon Britania ?

BRITANIA
This book.

TIM
In a flea market it seems to me.

BRITANIA
Can I borrow you? I will return it to you once read. Promised

TIM
No worries, take it. You’ll tell me what it talks about.

BRITANIA
I will. Cheers.

TIM
Are you making progress in your guitar playing Lysander?
LYSANDER
Not really. Drink too much, smoke too much, sleep too much.

[ Britania and Tim laughs at his unexpected answer. Then she puts it in her bag
and she goes to sit near them. Lysander take his guitar and begins to play, his
Spanish music warms the place. Tim gets up to turn off the music on the laptop
and takes another guitar accompanying him ]

LYSANDER(speaking to himself)
A guitar is like a woman, you have to pamper her and to feel the passion as
well. Here we go.

Britania and Tim laughs again.

[ End Transition - Nash Callum Tango Music ] [ Travelling on the Lysander

guitar ]

A strange voice whispering in the background:

The blood brothers will fall under your spell for eternity.

[ A doll in transition resembling to Britania ]

INT - PUCK HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT

Puck and his fiancée are in bed, she approaches him to hug him, kiss him. But
he doesn't retort way because he doesn't want, she finally stops. They place
themselves each on their side of bed and fall asleep. Puck's gaze is blank for a
moment.

HELENE
Is something wrong?

PUCK
Just not tonight. I don't have mind for that.

EXT - HYDE PARK - DAY

[ Flashback ] Britania is drawing rigorously on a canvas in a park (Hyde Park)
Near a lake, the square is green, birds chirping, sounds a little fairy. She uses
several colors drawing a nymph. ]

THE FOLLOWING DAY

EXT - PUCK HOUSE - IN THE GREENHOUSE - DAY

In the morning having breakfast. A argument between Puck and his fiancee. She
reproaches him for not being the same last these days. Coldly, Puck tell her to
leave. He tells her clearly that he no longer has a feeling and that he no longer
loves her. Upset, tears full of eyes she goes away. As bewitched Puck is into his
unconscious phase.

PUCK ( Confusion/mixed feelings)

I don't think I love you anymore. I want you leave right now. It's over.

HELENE
Why ? What happened to you Puck ? Did I do something wrong?

PUCK
I don’t know what happened, I won't repeat to you again. Get out. Get out.

[ Tears in eyes, trembling. Helene goes away ]

INT - NIGHT - PUCK FIANCEE HOUSE

LYSANDER VOICE
Puck's fiancee could not bear their break-up, some time after she committed
suicide. We also learned she was pregnant. Helene was basic depressed. This
was the drop of water which has overflowed the vase.

[ Flashback ] Helene drinking poison at her mother place.

[ Flashback ] The lifeless body of Puck’s Fiancee lying down on a bed, an

empty cruet in her hand.
INT - PUCK HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - THUNDER’S NIGHT

Puck sits in his living room, facing the fireplace, hands on his face, crying,
overwhelmed with regret. Resuming reason, he remembers the good memories
spent with his fiancee. Both happy, the couple planed to get married and have a
child together. His heart rate begins to accelerate, his heart beats at full speed,
he sweats. As if it were an anxiety attack. He's having trouble breathing.
[ Sounds effect beating heart and thunders rumbling ]

[ Flashback in Puck mind ]

He gives Helene a small box. He proposes her in marriage. She opens it, inside
finds a ring. He puts the ring on her finger.

[ Reflection of the luminosity on Puck face due to the thunder outside piercing
the windows. He caught up in madness, re finding reason ]

PUCK ( Holding his head. Upset, crying )

Why did I do that ? Oh no ! My God why ? What happens to me ?

[ Flashback ] The lifeless body of Helene lying down on a bed, an empty cruet
in her hand. The ring on his finger.

INT - PUCK HOUSE - BEDROOM - THUNDERSTORM NIGHT

[Flashback in Puck’s mind] Evening images: Britania and Tim. Puck slumped in
his bed. He sees perfectly the evening with Britania, Tim and Lysander few days
sooner. a lightning strike appears towards his mind as well, He feels like the
sound of the waves caressing his soul, he sees and recognises the hands of his
brother writing the name of Britannia in the sand. [ Sound effect waves ][ The
Book Of Secrets ].

Puck is developing mediumship gifts. He is able now therefore be able to see

events from the past, instantaneous but also from the future, such as brief
flashes appearing in his mind and feel the events as if he were really there on
the spot.

[A whispering voice: Britania]

THE FOLLOWING DAY

EXT - ELISABETH QUAI- DAY

Tim is at Elisabeth Quai, tasting an ice scream accompanied by Britania, she

wants to do a merry go round, it reminds her of good memories of her
childhood. Tim look around during this time crossing the bridge. He answers the
phone call from the Scott Brothers. But He does not reveal to them the presence
of Britania.

[ Seen on the place so the river, the boats, le bridge. ]

Enchanted merry-go-round music to the background. On the bridge he sees a

clown with a funny look with a sign written on it: Money for Clown. Doing ring
a bell. This meeting does not leave him indifferent because it is the first time
that he sees him. Curious, he approaches the Clown and gives him a coin. The
clown begins to mime, thereafter begins to imitate Tim's actions. Tim laughs.
The clown remains silent and gives him his business card. Tim takes it and
continues on its way smiling.

BRITANIA
I want to do this merry go round , it reminds me of good memories.

TIM
Ok, I meanwhile go on the bridge to look around, finish my ice scream, we meet
afterwards.

BRITANIA
Okay, see ya.

INT - PUCK HOUSE - IN THE GREENHOUSE - DAY

PUCK ( On the phone )

Hi Tim. How are you going ?

TIM
Fine. What about you ?

PUCK
I’m alright. What is this stupid music in the background ?
TIM ( lying )
Just a TV Show. Nothing.

PUCK
Where can I find Britania please ? Do you have her contact ?

EXT - ELISABETH QUAI - DAY ( On the phone )

TIM
How do you know her? I don't remember introducing her to you.

PUCK
I don’t have time now Tim. I’ll explain you that later. How can I meet her ?

TIM
Britania is really not easy to reach. Usually, she's who finds us.

INT - PUCK HOUSE - IN THE GREENHOUSE - DAY ( Puck on the phone )

PUCK ( Irriting suddenly )

Holy shit! If you see her again.
Let me know right now. It does matter. Alright ?

TIM ( Sound likes no very surprised )

I will. Ok.

EXT - ELISABETH QUAI - DAY

He continues to walk to retrace his steps to the merry-go-round where Britania

is located. He then sees the technician of the merry-go-round drinking from a
small metal vial. He wears overalls, with green suspenders. He notices that he is
a bit drunk, wandering, his gaze flickering.

TIM
Cheers.

TECHNICIAN
Cheers mate. Beautiful day isn’t it ?

TIM
Pretty good. Is it whiskey?
TECHNICIAN ( Drinking )
Apple juice.

TIM (Laughing)
Of course.

Tim always used to make improbable and very funny meetings. The technician
start to stop the the merry-go-round. Tim’ mobile phone rings again shortly
after. He answers. Unlike his brother, the tone of his voice is very calm. Looks
dreamy.

EXT - FREMANTLE BEACH - DAY

LYSANDER ( on the phone )

Hi Tim. Where can I see Britania ?

TIM
I don’t get news from her since our last evening.

LYSANDER
She must be somewhere.

TIM
I don’t know maybe she’s gone back in Spain.

LYSANDER
I hope not! I think to give a concert tonight, I hope you’ll come.
Can you let Britania known about it, it will be great if she comes.

TIM
Your brother is also looking for her. You known that ? Why guys ?
What do you want with her?

LYSANDER
How Puck knows her?

TIM
I don’t know.

LYSANDER
That is strange. Alright I’m going to figure out about it.
TIM
Anyway, I will be there and I’ll say her if I see her.

LYSANDER
Thanks, see you later.

EXT - ELISABETH QUAI - DAY

BRITANIA arises and leaps on back’s Tim. He turns around and together they
laugh.

TIM
I met a funny clown earlier.

BRITANIA
Ah yes, where ? Let's go to see him.

TIM
On the bridge let's go, maybe he’s still there.

BRITANIA (HAPPY)
Great, let's go to see the clown.

[Conversation Sound Fade out]

TIM
I warn you, he’s a little strange.

BRITANIA
Ah yes ? How strange?

They hit the road towards the bridge.

EXT- FREMANTLE BEACH - DAY

Lysander is alone on the beach, taking the fresh air, his eyes on the ocean. He is
worries because his brother begins to make inroads into the heart of Britania. He
tries to think of how he can woo Britania. He writes on the sand the name of
Britania by drawing a heart in place of the point on the letter i.

LYSANDER ( mumbling to himself)

What has Puck got in there?
EXT - STREET OF CITY PERTH - DAY

So, Lysander finally decides to give a concert by informing people in this

suburb in order to see Britania again. He distributes some advertisements of his
concert in people's mailboxes.

EXT - CEMETERY - END OF AFTERNOON - THE GRAVE OF HELENE

AND OF HIS CHILD.

Puck in his awareness is at the cemetery on the grave of Helen and her child.
Solemn instant. Time seems to have stopped. He lays a bouquet of flowers on
their graves. Sound of wolves howling resounding throughout the cemetery.

[[ Flashback: He sees Helene very happy spin around on herself on the beach,
the more she turns, gradually she takes the appearance of Britania.]

PUCK
Then there was I
But there was us
And that moon, that sea, that furnace
In the dark of the night,
The light in the firmament

There was I, but there was us,

Among the streets, our thoughts, the leaves rustle,
The streams are flowing endlessly in different times,
The rocks are smoothed,

Mindgems
And the firelight,
The light in the firmament.

Oh my tired body, my mind rattles, waxed strong the moonlight by the bay.
When we walked on the fields of flowers by the ocean
What sadness, we hadn’t even lived
But were alone,
Together,
Our minds
… I see the future.
INT - LYSANDER’S CONCERT - DUENDE SPANISH RESTAURANT -
NIGHT

The night of the concert turns up and he starts playing. Lysander is accompanied
by another person playing the tambourine and another playing the violin. His
game is pretty good but not brilliant and the audience is not as enthusiastic as he
would like it to be. He hopes Britania is there but doesn't see her. He can only
see the first rows because the stage lights are bright. He tries but the more he
tries, the more he can't play brilliantly. He fears that if Britania is there, she
won't be impressed. Suddenly, a lightning strike appears towards his mind and
he begins to play brilliantly (The book of secrets) The crowd begins to enjoy the
concert more and more. Thus, He hopes Britania is there. ( Music
interpretation: Vicente Amigo : Roma )

INT - PUCK’S PLACE - NIGHT

Puck goes home, he's completely wiped out. He pours himself some glasses of
whisky drinking them rapidly, then he wanders around his place.

INT - LYSANDER’S CONCERT - SPANISH RESTAURANT - DUENDE -

NIGHT

Lysander keep playing with brillance and the audience is completely captivated
by his performance. The audience applauds to the rhythm of their game and
dance.

INT - PUCK’S PLACE - NIGHT

During the concert when Lysander starts slowly playing more and more
intensely, Puck’s madness increases along with the music. The scene switches
back and forth between the two increasing with every shot change, at the
epitome of the music cuts to silence cuts to black, then slowly fades back to
Puck in anguish.

PUCK
Stupide music who make me crazy! Stop it!

EXT - LYSANDER’S CONCERT - SPANISH RESTAURANT - DUENDE -

NIGHT
Lysander is short of breath after his intense play. The audience rises and cheers
for a long time.

INT - PUCK’S PLACE - BEDROOM - NIGHT

At the same time when Lysander finishes his musical performance. Puck lies
down on his bed. He then goes to bed and falls asleep. He dreams, He feels and
hears the sound of the waves caressing his soul, he sees and recognizes the
hands of his brother writing the name of Britannia in the sand.

Later in the night, Suddenly Puck is suddenly awakened by piano notes. With a
vigilant step he goes to the living room where the latter is.
Taken by an icy fear he arrives in front of the piano and sees no presence, just
the piano notes playing alone. Completely shocked he recognises the melody of
his wife Helene. he sees a gleam in his room, it landed at the foot of his bed, he
sees the ghost of Helene close to him. Helene's ghost appearing to him like a
dancing torch. Dark and at the same time very bright. Her appearance is
phosphorescent like the stars. He rubs his eyes, he knows that he is not
dreaming and that her presence is real.

INT - PUCK’S PLACE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

PUCK
Is you Helene ?

 HELENE’S GHOST
We were made for each other. Why did you abandon me?

PUCK
Forgive me my love.I was not myself.
What can I do to fix it ?

HELENE’S GHOST
Do not try to see her anymore. She’ll come to you.

PUCK
Who are you talking about ?

HELENE’S GHOST
You know.
PUCK
I don't know her. Britania you mean ?

HELENE’S GHOST
Forgive yourself and everything is gonna alright.

[She starts to disappear.]

PUCK
Oh no come back my love!

HELENE’S GHOST
Accept your curse.

PUCK
I love you

HELENE’S GHOST ( Smilling )

I love you too.

He approaches her with outstretched hand to join hers also outstretched. Their
hands touch each other. Then, gradually Hélène’s ghost disappears. The
particles of lights fade in the silent night.

EXT - HYDE PARK - DAY

[ Music ]

Britania is drawing rigorously on a canvas in a park (Hyde Park) Near a lake,

the square is green, birds chipping, sounds a little magic. The drawing nymph
takes shape.

Strange voice whispering in the background:

What you draw comes to life.

An ice scream truck passes throughout the park. Britania then leaves her brush
and her paint on the spot and hastens to go to take an ice scream. What she drew
takes life. A splendid nymph comes out of the canvas, and walks quietly to the
lake, she naturally slips into. As if she finds her natural environment.

2 children including a little boy and a little girl going to sit on a stranded tree
trunk near a lake. The boy holds a book in his hand, he opens it up to Chapter 2
Redemption:

LITTLE BOY:
The rest of the story later.

LITTLE GIRL :
Oh no Tim, please continue.

LITTLE BOY :
We have to go back, otherwise we will be scolded.

LITTLE GIRL :
Alright. Sniff.

LITTLE BOY :
Let’s go back Britania.

[Flashback] Before the evening begins, at the beginning of the film, we see Tim
intentionally placed the book of secrets in her bookstore for Britania to discover
it knowing her curious nature.

TIM ( smirked )
Full Power! Ahah !

Dream Redemption.
INT - JAPANESE CLASS ROOM - DAY.

Tim in class, he studies Japanese, he falls asleep, between his work as a waiter
and his lessons he is very tired. He used to remember each of his dreams during
his sleep. Even stranger, when he finishes a dream and sleeps again he plunges
into the continuity of his dream, exactly where it ended. Sometimes he is very
afraid of falling asleep again. So, He sleeps, he dreams that someone is breaking
into his home, he wakes up and surprises the malefactor. He takes his baseball
bat, and hits him in the face. It collapses to the ground and die instantly. the
police arrive on board, he ends up in prison. Justice has not taken into
consideration his self-defence. He finds himself wrong. So he wakes up in class.

JAPANESE TEACHER
I see that you are very interested in my course. Stay at home next time.

TIM
Sorry, I finished the job until late last night.

JAPANESE TEACHER
It's not my business. The exams are fast approaching and you are far from
graduating with your mediocre grades.

TIM ( JAPANESE LANGUAGE )

Don't underestimate me.

The bell rings, The pupils leave the classroom.

INT - SCHOOL HALLWAYS - DAY.

Tim and his friend Shihiro are walking quietly through the school hallways.

SHIHIRO
Another strange dream, what happened? You seem worried.

TIM (WORRIES)
I'm in jail.
SHIHIRO
How is it in prison? tell me.

TIM
I have never been in this situation before. Like caught in my own trap.
I have to find a way to free myself.

SHIHIRO
What are you talking about ? Explain.

TIM
Never mind. How was your holiday at Byron Bay?

SHIHIRO
Great, I will have stayed there for a very long time.
Seriously Tim you know you can confide in me.

TIM
Alright…

EXT - TENNIS CENTER - RANDELL STREET - DAY

[ Flashback ] Lysander is playing tennis with his brother Puck.

PUCK
Play better. You put the ball outside all the time. We haven't even had an
interesting exchange since we started.

LYSANDER
I'm doing my best.

PUCK
Your best is sheet.

Lysander misses his serve, the ball goes outside.

LYSANDER
Holy sheet!
PUCK throws his racket on the ground.

PUCK
I stop I come back it's over for today.

LYSANDER
But we have barely started.

PUCK
I stop I had my dose. You are wasting my time.
Don't call me again if it's to play like this.

LYSANDER ( VOICE in background )

He always put me down, as if he was drawing his nerves against me. The prince
of the family, and me the acrobat.
It is my feeling when we are in family.

PUCK
Mom and dad spent a fortune on your law studies. And you spend your time
playing the guitar hoping one day to become a professional flamenco guitar.
Shit. Wake up Lysander, set a real goal.

LYSANDER
I thought about it yes to be a real asshole like you.

PUCK
What did you say. Repeat this to see.

He approaches him towards the net. He also approaches, throwing his racket on
the ground going towards confrontation.

LYSANDER
I'm grown up now, and I'm not afraid of you.

Puck calms down and turns back.

PUCK
Dumbass!

LYSANDER
Why are you thinking about this? We are playing quiet.
I organized this outing so that we can meet and have a good time, and here we
are.

PUCK
Just grow up a little shit with your stupid dreams, you screw up everyone in
shit.

LYSANDER ( VOICE in background )

It is as if he always wanted to be right and the last word.
What I can say is useless. I hate him.

Puck leaves without Lysander.

PUCK
I'm going home alone. Get out of here to get back.

LYSANDER
I don't care, ok get out.
