Essay Writing Rubrics

This rubric provides guidance for evaluating essays in 5 areas: ideas, organization, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation. For each area, descriptors are given for performance levels from 1 (unacceptable) to 5 (excellent). According to the rubric, an excellent essay is clear and focused, with well-developed ideas enriched by relevant details. It has a compelling organizational structure and flows smoothly. Standard writing conventions are used effectively. The format and presentation enhance understanding.
