AGLS Light Sensor: Luminance Adapter

The AGLS Light Sensor measures both luminance and illuminance, with a range of 0.05 to 50,000 cd/m2 and 0.05 to 50,000 lux respectively. It contains a photo diode and optical filter that simulates the spectral response of the human eye. A removable luminance adapter can expose the photo diode to light through an aperture to measure luminance, while removing it measures illuminance directly. The sensor connects to the Accu-Gold digitizer module software to make accurate color calibration measurements of monitors.

AGLS Light Sensor
The base unit of the light sensor contains a silicone photo
diode that can be exposed to ambient light through an optical
filter which, very accurately, simulates the spectral response

illuminance in lux units. A luminance adapter can be attached

to the base unit in front of the photo-diode for the measure-
ment of luminance in cd/m2 units through an aperture with a
10-mm diameter. Accu-Gold automatically detects the pres-
ence or absence of the luminance adapter and automatically
selects the appropriate units. The AGLS light sensor can only
be used with the Accu-Gold Digitizer Module.

Illuminance – Remove the luminance adapter by unscrewing

it from the base (see figure). Units will be lux.

Luminance – Screw the luminance adapter onto the base all

the way down so that the switch actuator is
depressed. Units will be cd/m2. Note: the
adapter must be used with the felt-covered
cap. Make sure the cap is fully seated.
Using the light sensor –
Install Accu-Gold from the included flash drive. (Run SETUP
from the included flash drive.) Manuals are installed on your
computer in
MyDocuments\Accu-Gold\Accu-Gold Documentation.
Plug the digitizer into the computer. Plug the sensor into the

press Start in the lower left corner. The software will

automatically recognize the sensor and will display the
applicable measurement windows. The sensor is now ready
to measure.

Place the sensor over the section of the monitor that you want
to measure and press the button on the side of the sensor.
Hold the button for a couple of seconds while the reading
stabilizes, then let go. The software will ding and the reading
will be recorded.

To measure ambient lighting conditions, press Stop, unscrew

the illuminance adapter, then press Start again. The units will
change. Press the sensor button to make the measurement.
