Geometry Summer Packet

This document provides a summer packet for students to review geometry concepts in preparation for the upcoming school year. It contains 16 sections covering topics like solving equations, simplifying radicals, finding area and circumference of circles, using the Pythagorean theorem, and calculating distance. Students are instructed to show all work and calculators will not be permitted on most problems. The completed packet is due on the first day of geometry class in the 2020-2021 school year.

Geometry Summer Packet

Directions: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. In this summer packet, each section will serve as prior knowledge required to
excel in Geometry. All problems need to be done without a calculator. Calculator use is limited in geometry. Students
should have all formulas memorized in order to succeed. Packet will be collected first day of class for 2020/2021 year.
All work must be shown in order to receive credit. AGAIN, ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN!!!

Equations
Solve each equation, show all steps.

1. 99 = 33𝑥 + 3(3𝑥 + 5) 2. 12𝑧 – (4𝑧 + 6) = 82

3. 2𝑥 +3𝑥 = 62 4. 4𝑛 + 5 = 6𝑛 + 7

5. 23𝑚 −5 = 21𝑚 +5 6. 3𝑝 – 8 = 13 – 4𝑝

7. 17𝑥 −3+17𝑥 +8 = 175 8. 𝑓 +41+𝑓 +78 = 95

9. 3𝑥 +18+93 = 180 10. 6𝑥 +2+40 = 90

11. 𝑘 +37+𝑘 +67+90 = 180 12. 3𝑤 −6+8𝑤 +4+50 = 180

13. 8+6𝑥 = 4𝑥 +2+30 14. 46+8ℎ −1 = 18ℎ +5

15. 9𝑥 −2+12𝑥 −4 = 20𝑥 +5

Simplest radical form.
When simplifying a radical in simplest radical from, the answer should not be as a decimal rather in a rational format.
You break up the number into factors and one is a perfect square.

√ 8= √ 4 * √ 2 = 2√ 2
8 has factors of 8*1 and 4*2, so we use 4 and 2 cause the square root of 4 is 2.

Simplify each radical into simplest radical form.

1. √ 225 2. √ 32 3. √ 98

4 . √ 40 5. √ 48 6. √ 125

7 . √ 90 8. √ 100 9. √ 256

1 0 . √4 5 11. √ 96 12. √ 216

1 3 . √ 56 14. √ 75 15. √ 54
Area & Circumference
Area is the amount of 1x1 square units that can go inside a figure. Circumference is the distance around a circle similar
to the perimeter of a figure. For the formulas, you can use google to search for them.

Find the area and circumference of each circle to the nearest tenth.

1. 2. 3.

Find the surface area of each figure. Round to the nearest tenth.

4. 5. 6.

7. 8. 9.
Pythagorean Theorem
a 2+b 2=c 2 , where a and b are the legs of the right triangle and c is the hypotenuse (the longest side)

Find each of the missing values. Show all work

Find the value of y. Express in simplest radical form.

1. 2. 3.

4. 5. 6.
Distance
Distance Formula

√¿ ¿

Distance also known as length is always positive. In this formula, when they give you two points, all you do is plug
them in and solve the formula. The points always come in the format ( x 1 , y 1 ¿ ,( x 2 , y 2) .

Find the distance for each set of points and leave in simplest radical form. No decimals.

1. A(6, 7), B(1, 7) 2. C(5, 5), D(5, 3)

3. H(20, 4), I(4, 3) 4. J(5, 5), K(3, 2)

5. 6.
