Chapter 1 Welcome to IGSS

1.1 What is IGSS?

What is IGSS?

IGSS stands for Interactive Graphical SCADA1 System and is designed to monitor and control industrial
processes. The system is designed to automate and support the daily work processes associated with
supervising an industrial plant. It targets two types of users:

l The system designer who makes a model of the industrial plant with the development tools and
l The operator who monitors and controls the plant using the runtime tools

IGSShas been commercially available since 1984. With more than 25,000 licenses sold worldwide, a wide
range of industries are now using the program on a daily basis.

Use
IGSS is currently used in a wide range of industrial applications including:

l wastewater treatment plants

l water supply plants
l production plants
l power and heating plants
l ship automation

System architecture
IGSS is a true object-oriented system. This results in several useful advantages for the system designer
and the operator. Most importantly, a process component consisting of a number of I/O points is treated as
one object in IGSS . This means that the system designer and the operator have the same perception of an
object and that the properties of this object can be viewed and modified from one dialogue. Object types
and templates are other object-oriented terms used in IGSS. Templates are especially useful to the system
designer as he can define one template and then base hundreds of objects on that template.

Openness is a cornerstone in the IGSS architecture. Schneider Electric believes that our users want to use
the newest technologies and we do not want to constrict our users to proprietary formats. Supported com-
munication interfaces include SQL, ODBC, OPC , OLE Automation, ActiveX and Automation These interfaces
allow you to exchange IGSS data with 3rd party programs. If you are about to create a huge project, you
can define the process components in an external database and then import the data into IGSS.

Scalability
Scalability is another key feature. When you buy an IGSS license, you only purchase the number of objects
and operator stations required. If you need to expand the project with more objects or operator stations,
you simply upgrade your license. The license file (a TXT file) is simply replaced on the server and you are
up and running again.

Chapter 2 The IGSS Master Module

2.1 What is the IGSS Master Master?

The IGSS Master is the IGSS control center for both system designers and operators. When you want to
start an IGSS module, you will always go through the IGSS Master module.

Besides being a shell for opening other IGSS modules, it contains a number of completely redesigned dia-
gnostics features:

l Diagnostics tools for troubleshooting system and driver errors

l Integrated browsing of data files and system log files
l Integrated driver communication monitor (previously known as the T7T Monitor)
l Integrated PLC simulator

The access to information and support has become much more intuitive with the IGSS Master:

l Direct view of the license file

l Direct access to support information on the web.
l Possibility of remote support using TeamViewer

The IGSS Master is thus your one-stop access point to all you need working with IGSS.

This help file takes you through the typical tasks performed by the system designer and the operator.
When you are familiar with the those, use the help file as a reference book by looking up the feature
names.

Chapter 3 Runtime and Design Modes

3.1 What is Runtime and Design Mode?

The IGSS Master module can run in two different modes:

Runtime mode
In this mode the user can only use the runtime functions. The features include:

l Starting and stopping the project

l Starting IGSS modules manually
l Browsing data files and error logs
l Using the diagnostics tools, including the driver test tool

Design mode
In this mode the user can do the following:

l Create new projects

l Set up projects in System Configuration
l Design mimic diagrams
l Configure all the other utilities such as Maintenance and User Administration
l Deploy projects in a multi-user system

Ribbons available

The difference between the two modes is very evident. In Design mode, the Design and Setup ribbon
appears. In Runtime mode, this ribbon is not available.

3.2 The Start page in Design mode

When you start the IGSS Master in Design mode, the Start Page appears first.

It is designed to get the new system designer started fast and easily.

Recent Projects
With a single click you can:

l Start the most recent projects

l Open IGSS projects not in the recent projects list
l Create a new project

Getting Started
As a new user, you will need a little help to get you on the right path. The topics are listed in the order in
which you will create and design an IGSS project, if you go by the book.

-5-
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

It is highly recommended that you start by using the Checklist for Plan-
ning a New IGSS Project.

IGSS Online
In this section you will see the most recent news from our web site.

3.3 The Start page in Runtime mode

This start page contains information from Schneider Electric as a default. If required, the default inform-
ation can be replaced by an HTML page designed by the plant's system integrator.

The page is designed to help the user get started fast with the basic monitoring and control tasks.

Chapter 4 TestServer mode

4.1 The TestServer Mode

If the hardlock connected to the IGSS server is damaged, invalid, missing or mismatched with the IGSS
license file (options.txt), the IGSS server can start in the TestServer mode instead of normal runtime
mode.

TestServer Mode

The TestServer mode allows you to run your IGSS server without a valid hardlock for up to 72 hours in
order to test your installation or run production until you can install a valid hardlock.

Starting the TestServer mode

The TestServer mode will not be started automatically. You must start the IGSS server manually by click-
ing the Start button on the Home tab in the IGSS Master. The start-up will take up to 30 seconds or more
as the system will search for valid connected hardlocks.

You must also approve the TestServer mode by clicking the OK button in the dialog appearing when the
IGSS System initiates the TestServer mode.

TestServer expiration

You can see when the TestServer mode expires in the Connection Information sub-tab of the System
Monitor tab in the IGSS Master.

After the TestServer mode expires, the IGSS Server will stop and you must manually re-start the server to
run a new 72-hour duration TestServer mode. You must still click the OK button in the dialog to start the
TestServer mode.

TestServer Limitations

The TestServer mode cannot be started on single-user stations and therefore cannot be run in Single-User
Backup mode either.

The TestServer mode can be started on a system running on a Demo license but the Demo license limit of
one hour of real-time monitoring is still in effect.

Handle alarms and events

Alarm and event that are triggered in IGSS are displayed in the Active Alarms form which is manually
opened by clicking the Alarms button on the Home tab of the IGSS Master. If the Alarms button is not
available, the project is either not available, has not been loaded or is stopped. You can see if the project
is started on the Home tab.

T he Active Alarms form can also be automatically opened whenever the IGSS configuration is started.
You can enable automatic starting of various modules on the Applications tab in the System Con-
figuration form.

Alarm vs. Event

An alarm is a notification which is generated when an error situation occurs, for example, when a value falls
below or exceeds a certain limit. An alarm can only be defined for one individual object such as a ther-
mometer reading below 12° or a turnstile rotating faster than 350 rpm.

An events is also a notification which is generated when a pre-defined situation occurs. An event can be
defined for multiple object values, for system variables or system objects and is completely user-defined.
for example you can set up an event that will trigger an alarm if the water pump is inactive, the overflow
valve closed, the water tank overfilled and the inflow regulator is running.

- 28 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

Once the Active Alarms form is opened, you can:

l Filter the alarm list and event list as well as the alarm log list and event log list
l Change the appearance and sorting order of the Active Alarms form.
l Acknowledge incoming alarms and events
l Inhibit specific alarms from triggering
l Find the objects triggering the alarm (Only if the Supervise module is started)
l Read, create and edit alarm notes
l Read, create and edit object notes

Set up automatic check for available updates

You can set up your IGSS installation to automatically check for available updates from the defined update
source (IGSS Update server, IGSS station or IGSSUPDATE.zip file) or you can manually check for available
updates.

If you want to update an IGSS station to get updates from another IGSS station, you must set up each sta-
tion to use another IGSS station as the update source.

Automatic check for available updates

If the IGSS installation is set up to automatically check for available updates, new updates in the defined
update source will be queried once every 24 hours, with the starting point being when the Commit button
is clicked.

If new available updates are detected, the update package will be downloaded to a temporary folder on the
local machine, readying the program for an update installation.

Automatic download limitations

If the selected update source is IGSS Update Server, updates will not be automatically downloaded
between 08:00 and 17:00, Danish time in order to prevent erroneous download of incomplete update files.
This is because during Danish working hours, the IGSS Update Server may be updated with new files pub-
lished by the IGSS Support and Development teams.

If the IGSS installation downloads and installs a mix of old and new update files, there is a risk, however
theoretical, that the update may cause program crashes and irregularities. To avoid this, automatic down-
load of update files from the IGSS Update Server during Danish working hours (08:00 to 17:00) is disabled.

To automatically check for updates: In the Fetch updated files group on the Preferences tab, select
Automatically in the background

Manual check for available updates

You can always conduct a manual check for updates on the defined update source.

The update check will be conducted and downloads started (if the Install update button on the Update
tab is clicked) regardless of the selected update source and time.

To set up manual check for updates: In the Fetch updated files group on the Preferences tab, select
Manually on request

Roll back an update

You can roll back an update and restore any files that were updated to their previous status. Rolling back
an update will re-introduce any program errors, inconsistencies or older functionality that the update in
question should have fixed.

To roll back an update

1. Click the Update IGSS Software button in the IGSS Master > Information and Support
tab to open the IGSS Updater form.

If the Update IGSS Software button is not available, you must switch mode from Runtime
Mode to Design Mode.
2. Select the update you want to roll back in the Saved restore points field on the IGSS
Updater form > Restore Points tab.
3. Click the Release history button to view any relevant release notes attached to the selected
update.
4. Click the Restore button to re-install the files originally replaced by the selected update and
remove the update files.

All files that were affected by the selected update will be restored.

Restoring files manually

You can also restore the files manually by navigating to the RestorePoints folder in the
GSS\Updater folder in the IGSS installation path, finding the update you want to restore and copy the
files in the Oldfiles folder into the GSS folder.

The default IGSS installation path is C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\IGSS32\V14.0 for 32-bit machines
and C:\Program Files (x86) \Schneider Electric\IGSS32\V13.0 for 64-bit machines.

When restoring files manually, you can select which files to restore.

When restoring individual files, please note that many files in IGSS require
other files of the same build number. These affected files will typically be
included in the updates from IGSS but restoring these files individually may
cause your IGSS installation to malfunction.

You must have administrator credentials when copying, removing or delet-

ing files in many of the standard folders used for IGSS installation - for
example the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders.

Delete all restore points

If you update your IGSS installation regularly, many files will be stored as restore points. This will use
increasingly larger amounts of disk space but will not affect IGSS performance.

If you want to free disk space on the IGSS installation disk, you can delete all restore points, deleting the
old original files and new update files in one process.

To delete all restore points

1. Click the Update IGSS Software button in the IGSS Master > Information and Support
tab to open the IGSS Updater form.

If the Update IGSS Software button is not available, you must switch mode from Runtime
Mode to Design Mode.
2. Click the Delete all restore points button to delete all restore folders and files.

Deleting restore points manually

You can also delete restore points manually by navigating to the RestorePoints folder in the GSS\Up-
dater folder in the IGSS installation path, finding the update you want to delete and deleting the folder and
file.

The default IGSS installation path is C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\IGSS32\V14.0 for 32-bit machines
and C:\Program Files (x86) \Schneider Electric\IGSS32\V13.0 for 64-bit machines.

When deleting restore points files manually, you can select which restore points to delete, allowing you to

Lock a Project

You can limit who can work on the project to the present owner of the Definition and System Con-
figuration modules only by enabling the Project Locking feature.

Project Locking requires correct set up and use of the IGSS User Administration module as users and user
rights are used to register who has locked a project and whether or not the person has sufficient rights to
open and edit the modules. See 1 below. When Project Locking has been enabled, the Project Lock group
will be displayed and is accessible on the Design and Set up tab in the IGSS Master .

Project Locking is not enabled by default and must be enabled in the System Configuration module.

- 54 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

Project Locking enabled

When Project Locking is enabled, a developer or system designer will be required to lock (take ownership
of) the Definition and System Configuration modules in order to make changes to these modules.

Once a user has locked the Definition and System Configuration modules, he or she is considered the
Owner of the modules and may make changes to the modules.

If the Definition and System Configuration modules are owned (locked) by someone else and a user
who does not own them, opens one or both of these modules, they will open in Read-Only mode, pre-
venting changes. A warning will also be displayed, informing the current user that the modules are locked
by someone else.

When the owner has completed any changes and saved (for System Configuration changes) or run
Check and Install/Check and Deploy (for changes in the Definition module), the modules can be
unlocked again, allowing others to access the modules. The lock can also be maintained, allowing the
owner to open the modules again to make more changes.

You cannot unlock the modules if the Definition or System Configuration modules still are open on the
local machine.

Only users with the Can Define global right may open the System Configuration or Definition module

Unlocking a project you do not own (Force Unlock)

A user with the Can Administer global right can unlock a project another user currently owns, effectively
freeing the project for editing.

The previous owner will not be able to save any changes made to either the Definition or System Con-
figuration modules as the project is now locked.

It is advisable to inform and give the current owner sufficient time to save
and deploy any changes to the project before force unlocking the project.

Project Locking not enabled

If Project Locking is not enabled or disabled, anyone 1 may open and edit the Definition and System Con-
figuration modules and the Project Lock group will not be displayed on the Design and Set up tab in
the IGSS Master .

1 If the IGSS User Administration module is enabled and correctly set up, only users with the Can Define
global Right may open and edit the Definition and System Configuration modules

Creating a new IGSS project

Open a Project

IGSS can load one configuration at a time. It is not possible to load multiple configurations.

You can load (open) a project in two ways:

l On the Design and Setup tab, click the Open Project button to open the Select the IGSS pro-
ject to open form and browse to the .elm file.
l On the Design and Setup tab, in the Start page, click the Open link to open the Select the
IGSS project to open form and browse to the .elm file.
In both cases, the current project in IGSS must be stopped in order to load a new project.

Connect an operator station to a server

On the IGSS Server

1. Set up a client/server system in the multiuser system.

2. On Design and Setup tab, click the Check and Install button to compile and check the pro-
ject.
3. On the Home tab, click the Start button to start the project on the IGSS Server. You are ready
to connect the operator stations.

On the operator station

1. In the Application menu1, select Design Mode.

2. On the Design and Setup tab, click the Connect to New IGSS Server icon.
3. Enter the IP address of the IGSS Server and click Connect.

1 The Application menu is the first ribbon in the IGSS Master module. Click the icon to drop down the menu.
The menu contains items that were typically found in the File menu in previous versions of IGSS. In most
modules, an "Options" item allows the user to define global module settings. The Application menu was
introduced in the Microsoft Office 2010 package. It replaces the Application button (nicknamed Doughnut)
which was introduced in IGSS V7 and V8.

- 56 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

4. In the Select this Station dialogue, select the operator station you want to connect to the
server. Note that when the dialogue opens, you will only see available operator stations, which
are “pure” operator stations. To see stations that also have other functions e.g. act as a server
in a dualized (hot standby) server system or as a distributed driver with or without single-user
backup, select the Show advanced station types button.

5. Click the OK button to connect the operator station to the IGSS Server.

Once connected, the status panel to the left should look like this:

Module Description

Audit Trail Records all user actions to allow very accurate tracking of plant events.

Allows you define jobs that are automatically executed either with a
regular interval or based on an IGSS event.
Job Scheduler

One of the typical uses is automatic printing of daily reports.

Create maintenance jobs to ensure that maintenance is performed in

due time. The operator will get an alarm when the maintenance inter-
Maintenance
val expires. Maintenance alarms can be viewed in the standard alarm
list.

Collect, display and acknowledge alarms from IGSS and other SCADA1
Notifier systems in the same alarm list. Send the alarms to the duty personnel
as an SMS to their cell phone or inform other personnel with an e-mail.

Allows you to send alarms to mobile phones or personal pagers during

Winpager (Legacy)
hours where the plant is unmanned.

Deploy the project

When you've made changes to your project - either in the System Configuration module or in the Defin-
ition module - you must install (compile) the changes.

When you install a project, the Install and Check module (Chelm) will check for configuration errors in
the project.

You have two options when you want to install (compile) your changes:

This option is always available, no matter whether the project is run-

Check and
ning or not. If the project is running, using this option will require
Install
that data collection is stopped for a brief period.

This option is only available when the project is running. Using this
option, you will update the running project, but data collection is not
stopped. This means an unbroken sequence of LOG files and other
Check and
historical data. In a multiuser system, the Check and Update option
Update
will also be less intrusive to the operator. The operation station will
remember which diagram was active and return to that view after
the update.

Installation (compile) process

When you choose one of the above options, you will first be asked to save your changes. Then the Install-
ation Options dialog box will appear.

1 Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition

- 59 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

Initially, you only need to know a few options in the dialog box:

Field name Description

If you do not have all pictures for the project, you can enable this
Do not report errors on miss- option.
ing pictures The option is typically used by Technical Support and by system integ-
rators, if they do have the entire project at their disposal.

If you do not have the communication equipment connected, you can

enable this option.
Do not report driver setup
errors
Again, this is typically used by Technical Support and by system integ-
rators, if they do have the equipment at their disposal.

Select this option, if you just want to install the project without gen-
erating the installation report.
This will make the installation faster and you will not get a message at
the end of the installation process.

Do not generate report The installation report documents the entire

project. It lists all the objects, alarms, driver
setup, etc. However, it is typically not used so
much in the development phase. But when you
need to deliver the project documentation to
the end user, it is very useful and informative.

Once you've set up the above options, you can select this check box to
Skip this dialog
hide this dialog box.

- 60 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

The remaining options relate to the installation report. Refer to the Help button in the Installation
Options dialog box for further information.

Successful installation
If the installation is successful, the following will happen:

l A backup version of the project will be saved in the 7TBackup subfolder of the project path
l The message "Installation successfully completed" will appear, if you did not select the Do not
generate report check box
l If you did a Check and Install , go to the Home tab and click the Start button.
l If you did a Check and Update, the project is automatically restarted.

In case of installation errors

If there are configuration errors in the project, the Troubleshooter module will appear. It will assist you in
correcting the errors.

Typical configuration errors include:

l Forgot to link an alarm text to each alarm atom enabled

l Forgot to select a communication driver or external type1
l Specified node numbers which were not configured in System Configuration
l Moved/deleted images in the project
l Moved/deleted other file types linked to the project (databases, ActiveX controls, etc.)

The Troubleshooter module will list the errors one-by-one. Use the module as follows:

1. Double-click each line to go directly to the error location in the project.

2. Correct all errors and close the Troubleshooter module.
3. Install again.

Here's an example where the system designer forgot to link an alarm text to the alarm atom.

1 The external type identifies the data type used in the PLC to represent the process value. When IGSS
knows this format, it automatically converts the value to normal integers. The available data types are
driver-specific and can be enabled or disabled in the System Configuration program. Examples of external
types are: FP8 (fixed point 8 bit), FP16 (fixed point 16 bit) and FP32 (fixed point 32 bit).

Custom Report (RMS) Folders

When the system designer works on the report templates in Excel, he will preview the reports. These tem-
porary reports will be saved in the report folder under the subfolder RMS. The filenames are:

l 5a2c3aaa-b0f5-4608-8c3f-4a71a79630f3.RMS (the prefix is a GUID)

l RMS.dic (this file maps the GUIDs to the names of the report templates)

When the end user wants to generate a report, he can choose to save it as an HTM or XLSX file. The file loc-
ation is specified on the Report Options page in the Document Actions pane in Microsoft Excel. The nat-
ural choice would be the report folder. You can choose to create Year-Month-Day subfolders for easy
tracking of reports.

By default, the filename will be the same as the report name. This can, however, be changed on the
Report Options page. The folder/file structure may look like this:

Using the built-in PLC simulator

The TCP/IP PLC Simulator can communicate directly with the Generic TCP/IP Driver (ID 34). The simulator
can be very helpful in testing various scenarios when you don't have a real PLC connected.

With the simulator you can -

l Set values in the simulator and instantly view the values in the Supervise module
l Set alarm bits in the simulator and instantly view the alarms in the Alarm module.
l Set values in the Supervise module (for example, set points) and immediately view the bit pat-
tern in the simulator.

For more information about the simulator, refer to the TCP/IP PLC Simulator help file.

7.4 Information and Support Ribbon

Updating your IGSS software

The IGSS Support and Development team regularly publishes bug fixes, security updates and general pro-
gram improvements as updates to system, program and help files for released IGSS versions.

The IGSS Update form will compare the most recent files on the IGSS Update Server with the cor-
responding files in your IGSS installation. If the uUpdate Server files are newer than your local files, these
will be downloaded. The existing files will be backed up to the \Gss\Updater folder of your IGSS installation
and the new ones will be installed to the GSS folder.

Program updates are collected in update packages which contain all files submitted for update by the IGSS
Support and Development teams. Each update package is identified by a date, time and serial number
which enables system integrators or super-users to roll-back updates and gain an overview of which
updates have been installed on the IGSS stations of the plant.

- 81 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

The IGSS Support and Development teams recommend updating your IGSS installations frequently in order
to ensure system uses the latest software which helps ensure efficient program usage and also in order to
take advantage of new features and increased security settings.

IGSS must be shut down to update

Updating your IGSS installation will require you to shut down your IGSS program as a running system can-
not be updated.

Update all IGSS stations at the same time

All IGSS stations in your plant must be updated to the same update serial number. If only some of your sta-
tions are updated, you may experience issues when running IGSS as the stations will not have the same
program functionality.

Update sources

You can update to your IGSS installation from multiple sources:

l The IGSS Update server

l Another IGSS station
l An update .zip file

Updating from the IGSS Update Server

Ultimately, all updates originate from the IGSS Update Server, which contains all files release for update by
the IGSS Support and Development teams.

You can set up each IGSS station to retrieve updates from the IGSS Update Server, either checking auto-
matically every 24 hours and downloading the updates to a temporary folder, ready to be installed on the
local machine or you can manually perform the update check.

If you use the IGSS Update Server to retrieve updates, you must be able to access the internet from the
machine which is to be updated. You can specify a proxy address if you need to access the internet from a
proxy or leave the proxy address empty if you are not using a proxy address.

Updating from another IGSS station

You can set up your IGSS station to download updates from another IGSS station, for example setting your
plant up to download updates from the IGSS Update server via the internet only on the IGSS Server. All
other operator machines can then check for and download updates from the IGSS Server using the local net-
work only.

The actual machine that is updated from the internet does not need to be the IGSS Server. It could be an
ordinary operator station, set up with the sole purpose of being the only “update machine” with access to
the internet.

The IGSSUPDATE.Zip file

All IGSS updates are also placed in a .zip file for manual installation in plants that do not have internet
access.

- 82 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

You can download the .zip file from the IGSS Update server or create one based on the currently installed
update. In both cases, the .zip update file can be placed in a location which can be accessed by all IGSS
stations and thereafter downloaded and unpacked for installation on the local stations.

This allows you to test a released update package on one IGSS station and then distribute the update to all
IGSS stations set up to update from a local .zip file. You can therefore run your IGSS plant on updates that
can be slightly older than the currently released update, allowing for your own testing procedures.

The .zip file must be named IGSSUPDATE.zip in order to be used.

Checking for updates

You can set up your IGSS update procedure to check for updates automatically and regularly every 24
hours or check for updates manually by starting the IGSS Updater form and clicking the Check for
updates button.

The IGSS Updater form will check for any new updates, depending on the defined update source settings.

You cannot select individual update files to install or exempt from install-
ation. All files released for update must be installed in order to avoid
clashes between different versions of inter-dependent IGSS system files
and programs.

Update status of operator stations

System Monitor tab

You can see the update status of any online operator stations in the System Monitor tab in the IGSS
Master. The System Monitor tab is opened by clicking the System Monitor button in the IGSS Master
> Runtime and Diagnostics tab.

Server Connection Object (Digital Station object)

You can create a Server Connection object which monitors the update status of an online operator station
and can also be set up to trigger an alarm if the operator station is not updated correctly. The Server Con-
nection object compares the update serial number of the local IGSS with the update serial number of the
IGSS IGSS server and indicates if there is a mismatch - requiring an update of the operator station's IGSS
installation.

For more information on the Server Connection object, see the online help for the Definition module.

Release notes

Release notes are published for each update detailing the reason for the update. In cases of program errors
and bug-fixes, the original problem is often described and the suggested fix is detailed, if necessary.

You can also read the release notes attached to a newly available update before installing it and you can
read release notes for all already installed updates, gaining an overview of the update history for your
installation.

- 83 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

Removing an update

Restore points are automatically created when you install a selected update in order to facilitate a roll-
back in case the installed update did not have the desired effect. The restore points are identified by a date
and time as well as the update serial number in case you have updated multiple times during one day.

When a restore point is created, the new update files are saved as well as a back-up copy of the original
files which were updated. The back-up copies are stored in the Updates folder in the GSS directory of the
local IGSS installation. This will over time increase the size of the IGSS installation on the disk and you
can free up space on the disk by deleting the restore points.

Restore points can be deleted through the IGSS Updater form or manually in the GSS folder by normal MS
Explorer functions.

You can roll back updates from the IGSS Updater form by selecting the restore point and then clicking the
Restore button. You can also manually restore selected files by copying the original files into the GSS
folder of the local IGSS installation folder.

Logging Levels

Separate logging levels have been implemented for the IGSS Updater form and update procedure
because the form is separate and independent of the IGSS Master which starts it. The logging levels
defined in the IGSS installation cannot be applied to the IGSS Updater form.

The logging levels are used to help IGSS Support troubleshoot and analyze any potential discrepancies and
errors with the update procedure or Updater form.

Like all logging level settings in IGSS, we do not recommend that you adjust the logging level settings
without consulting IGSS Support first.

View update status in the Supervise module

The update status of your IGSS station can be seen in the Supervise Module by creating and setting up a
Station Connection Object which can display the update serial number and also warn the operator if the sys-
tem needs updating after the IGSS server has been updated.

If the update serial number on the operator station is not identical to the update serial number on the IGSS
server, the Server Connection object can be set up to trigger an alarm and/or display the update status of
the operator station to "Update required".

The IGSS System object can also be set up to display the update serial number.

For more information about the Server Connection object and the System object, see the Definition help
in the Definition module or in the IGSS Master > Help Pane.

10.2 Shortcuts to IGSS projects

If you are working with multiple IGSS projects, you may want to have a shortcut to each project on your
desktop.

Simply create a shortcut to the IGSS project file, [ProjectName].elm.

When you double-click the file, the project will automatically be loaded in the IGSS Master module.

10.3 Replace the content of the IGSS Online information pane

When you open the IGSS Master, the Recent Projects, Getting Started and IGSS Online panes are
automatically displayed in the Start Page tab.

The IGSS Online pane displays the default IGSS information web page for all installations, but you can
replace the IGSS information web page with another web page, for example linking to a company intranet
site or an external web page if your installation has access to the internet.

You can also clear the IGSS Online pane, leaving the pane empty.

You can define two different web pages for the IGSS Online pane, one for each license type (Developer or
Runtime) in IGSS. The web page which will be displayed will depend on the type of IGSS license which is
installed on the operator machine.

The IGSS Developer license will only display the web page defined for the Developer license and the
IGSS Runtime license will only display web page defined for the Runtime license. The default IGSS inform-
ation web page is also split into a Developer license default web page and a Runtime license default web
page.

- 104 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

The Demo license corresponds to a Developer license and the FREE50

license is a Runtime license.

To clear the IGSS Online pane

web page check box
4. Click File > Save Project to save the configuration and then click File > Exit to close the Sys-
tem Configuration form.

The next time the IGSS Master is opened, the new web page will be displayed in the IGSS Online pane.

When you have made changes to the system configuration, your IGSS con-
figuration must be restarted. When an IGSS configuration is restarted, all
IGSS applications will be shut down. If you are utilizing IGSS applications
that are not automatically started when the configuration is started, you
must restart these applications manually.

To replace the default start page with a specific web page

1. In the IGSS Master > Design and Setup tab, click the System Configuration button to
open the System Configuration form.
2. In the left pane of the System Configuration form, right-click the station you want to con-
figure and select This PC.

l Design Time URL.
6. Click File > Save Project to save the configuration and then click File > Exit to close the Sys-
tem Configuration form.

The next time the IGSS Master is opened, the new web page will be displayed in the IGSS Online pane.

Troubleshooting

If an incorrect web page is displayed in the IGSS Online pane

l double check which IGSSstation you are using compared to which station was active when you set
up the web page
l double check the installed IGSSlicense type (Runtime or Developer) and make sure the license
type corresponds to the defined URL in the relevant field
l Make sure the Show web page check box is selected
l Make sure the operator machine has sufficient rights to access the internet (if the web page is an
external webpage)
l Troubleshoot the network in general. If the network is problematic, then the start page is probably
the least of your worries.

If there's no Internet access, the default offline content from Schneider Elec-
tric will be displayed.

10.4 Automatic startup of windows applications

You can start other windows applications or script files automatically whenever your IGSSconfiguration
starts and/or close, for example always starting a disk monitoring program or the Windows Notepad pro-
gram for quick notes.

The started programs will be automatically closed when the configuration is closed.

IGSS can also be set up to start windows applications or run files when the configuration closes as well.

- 106 -
IGSS Master User Guide - IGSS V14

Set up Automatic start of windows applications when IGSS starts

1. Create a sub folder called "Startup" in the configuration folder of the IGSS configuration.

The folder name must be Startup in order for the IGSS Master to be able to detect shortcuts to
execute when starting.
2. Create a shortcut to the program you want to automatically start up when IGSS starts.

You can right-click on the Startup folder and select New > Shortcut and complete the steps of
the wizard or you can copy an existing shortcut into the Startup folder.
3. Place the short cut in the Startup folder, right-click and select Properties to open the Prop-
erties form.
4. In the Properties form for the selected shortcut, add any applicable parameters to the shortcut.
5. Click the OK button to close the Properties form.

Each shortcut placed in the Startup folder will be started when the configuration starts.

When the configuration closes, all running programs with shortcuts in the Startup folder will be attempted
closed by IGSS.

Set up Automatic start of windows applications when IGSS closes

1. Create a sub folder called "Shutdown" in the configuration folder of the IGSS configuration.

The folder name must be Shutdown in order for the IGSS Master to be able to detect shortcuts
to execute when starting.
2. Create a shortcut to the program you want to automatically start up when IGSS starts.

You can right-click on the Shutdown folder and select New > Shortcut and complete the steps
of the wizard or you can copy an existing shortcut into the Shutdown folder.
3. Place the short cut in the Shutdown folder, right-click and select Properties to open the Prop-
erties form.
4. In the Properties form for the selected shortcut, add any applicable parameters to the shortcut.
5. Click the OK button to close the Properties form.

Each shortcut placed in the Shutdown folder will be started when the configuration closes.

IGSS will wait for 2 minutes for each shortcut in the Shutdown folder before proceeding to the next short-
cut in order to give any programs or script files time to load or start running.

Overview of the started windows applications

You can see an overview of the status of all applications running in IGSS on the Detailed Status tab. The
name of each shortcut will be displayed in the User Applications section, with a .lnk suffix.

- 107 -

11.3 Version Information (IGSS Help System)

© Schneider Electric, IGSS Version 14.0

The IGSS help files are based on software build number 10305 (initial release)

English help files

To update the help files, click the Update IGSS Software button on the Information and Support tab
in the IGSS Master . There must be a connection from the PC to the Internet. Every time IGSS Update is
run, IGSS help files as well as IGSS system files will automatically be updated on the PC from the web
server at Schneider Electric.

You select the languages you want to update in the Tools menu of the IGSS Update form.

If you are not able to update the IGSS system directly via the Internet, the alternative is to download the
updates from the Schneider Electric website as zip files. These can then be transferred onto a CD or USB
memory stick, which is then the medium used to update on site.

After updating your IGSS installation , the build numbers in various IGSS
modules may change to a higher number. This signifies that the module in
question has been updated with newer files. Build numbers consist of four
digits, where the first digit represents the year and the last three represent
the day number in the year in question. The build number can be seen in
the About dialog box which can be activated from the Help menu.

An example:

Build number = 10305

19 = the year 2019
305 = The 305th day of the year

Application menu
The Application menu is the first ribbon in the IGSS Master module. Click the icon to drop down
the menu. The menu contains items that were typically found in the File menu in previous ver-
sions of IGSS. In most modules, an "Options" item allows the user to define global module set-
tings. The Application menu was introduced in the Microsoft Office 2010 package. It replaces the
Application button (nicknamed Doughnut) which was introduced in IGSS V7 and V8.

D
descriptor
A descriptor is the graphical display of an object. IGSS includes many types of descriptors includ-
ing: - Built-in standard symbols - Animated symbols (Symbol Factory library) - Graphics and
animation - Drawing symbols - Windows controls - ActiveX controls An IGSS object can be rep-
resented with different descriptors on different diagrams.

Documents and Status pane

The Documents and Status pane is located in the left side of the IGSS Master window just below
the ribbon. At the top of the pane, you see the status of the system. In the lower part of the pane,
you select which documents you want to view/modify: Help - Help files organized in categories

these values have actually changed or not, and prior to the application of any scaling or con-
version procedures. The extended log file stores the raw process data in the data format of the
PLC.

external type
The external type identifies the data type used in the PLC to represent the process value. When
IGSS knows this format, it automatically converts the value to normal integers. The available
data types are driver-specific and can be enabled or disabled in the System Configuration pro-
gram. Examples of external types are: FP8 (fixed point 8 bit), FP16 (fixed point 16 bit) and FP32
(fixed point 32 bit).
