Progressive Activities Answer the following questions based on the pictures given below.
1. What are the people in the pictures doing?

Look at the sentences below:
a. The sun is shining brightly now. b. My students are studying English now. c. My mom is staying at home now. d. Unhas is having a graduation right now. e. I am teaching English at the moment. • We use these kind of sentences when we talk about activities that are in progress at the exact time the speaker talking. • The time marker that we use in Progressive forms are: now right now at the time being Pattern of Sentence
The Present Progressive sentence has the
following form:
Subject + to be (am/is/are) + V-ing + O/C
Look at the other sentences: a. I am looking for a cheap car. b. He is painting his house this week. c. The students are doing the assignment this week. d. She is writing a report these two weeks. e. My parents are building a new house this year. • We also use these kinds of sentences for activities that are in progress but not happening at the exact moment the speaker is talking. • We can use time expressions such as: this week these days to show when the action is happening. Let’s practice Stative verbs What is a Stative verb? A stative verb is a type of verb that is not usually used in the progressive form because it expresses a condition or states that is not changing. Some of them are: ❖Know ❖Want ❖Like ❖Understand Look at the way the verbs are used in sentences: a. I know her well. (correct) I am knowing her well. (incorrect) b. She wants to buy a car. (correct) She is wanting to buy a car. (incorrect) c. They like physics. (correct) They are liking physics. (incorrect) d. I understand the problem. (correct) I am understanding the problem. (incorrect) Some stative verbs can be used in the Progressive form but the meaning is different from the present form. a. They have a large house. (they own a large house). b. They are having a good time. (they’re experiencing a good time) c. Mark looks very unhappy. (Mark seems unhappy) d. Mark is looking for his car key. (Mark is searching for his car keys) e. The soup tastes salty. (the soup has a salty taste.) f. The chef is tasting the soup. (the chef is trying the soup.) g. I see Lisa. She’s behind Bob. (I’m looking at Lisa) h. I am seeing Lisa. (I’m dating Lisa.) TASK

English. 1. Saya sedang menulis laporan saat ini. 2. Ibu saya sedang mengajar adik saya sekarang. 3. Dia (laki-laki) sedang mengecat rumahnya minggu ini. 4. Temannya (perempuan) sedang mendengarkan musik saat ini. 5. Ayah saya sedang membaca surat kabar sekarang. 6. Mahasiswa sedang mengerjakan tugas mereka di perpustakaan saat ini. 7. Dosen kami sedang menjelaskan tentang Progressive Activities sekarang. 8. Adik saya sedang belajar di sekolahnya saat ini. 9. Perempuan tersebut sedang menonton berita di televisi sekarang. 10. Teman-teman saya sedang mengetik tugas mereka saat ini. For individual presentation: a. Each student must choose one of the pictures. b. The students must describe the picture by telling us the number of the people in the picture, the place or the location where the people are and the most important thing is the students has to describe what the people in the picture are doing. You can add some more information you want to add regarding to the picture. c. The students have to write down the description of the picture in paragraphs on a piece of paper. d. The students have to describe the picture orally by sending the voice note on the WAG. The voice note is sent together with the picture of the paragraphs.
