Solutions For Week 6 Case Study 2

The document provides solutions from a group of students for a case study about a jewelry company called Vonkel that is facing supply chain issues. It recommends that Vonkel implement a fixed location inventory system and tracking inventory system to better manage their finished jewelry products. It also suggests using barcoding and RFID tagging to efficiently track inventory through the supply chain. The best game plan for Vonkel is to use barcoding and RFID tags to monitor inventory from manufacturing to shipping. This will allow automatic reorders when products are sold to maintain optimal inventory levels. Vonkel should implement a supply chain information system to address inventory issues in order to avoid going out of business. Systems like barcoding and RFID tagging

1. What Vonkel should do to improve supply chain issues?

Solution: Vonkel Should effectively use the fixed location system and tracking inventory system because,
Firstly, as their main product is jewelry and are manufactured in different shapes and sizes. In fixed
Inventory system the item has been assigned its exporting location and as to the inventory it shows
overall 80 percent is finished product. It’s a necessity to assign a fix location as the company knows its
boom period and so it can reduce filling orders. Secondly, Tracking Inventory will be an efficient way to
manage as there will be no extra stock left and a constant watch can be kept. By using various bar codes
and RFID tagging which help to manage an entire global supply chain as one entity. Information
technology is also an effective tool to manage such areas.

2. What is the best game plan for Vonkel to address the inventory issues?
Explain your choice.
Solution:
1. Enterprise resource planning is the most useful system as it includes components like Electronics
data interchange (EDI) using which Vonkel can change its data with the suppliers and retailers.

2. Barcoding and RFID tags are also the useful methods as it helps in identifying the product with
each product code. RFID tags transfer the data immediately with the help of radioactive waves and so the
inventory can be managed easily.

3. Stock control system helps in managing the details of the inventory on the computer system. It
provides the details such as What was sold, to whom, how quickly, in how much quantity, and it
automatically re-order at the right time.
I would prefer that Vonkel should use the Barcode and RFID tags as they can monitor the supply chain in
the manufacturing process, in a warehouse and during the shipping. With the help of RFID when the
products are sold the purchase order for the replacement are transmitted automatically. Due to this the
risk and cost of excess inventory can be reduced. Also, with barcode and tags the Vonkel can locate the
stock easily and deliver the order timely.

3. Should Vonkel use supply chain information system and address its immediate
issues? Why? Explain.
Solution:
Yes, vonkel should use supply chain information system and address its issues because if it continues
doing business like this there is a high chance of getting out of business. They need to implement
inventory control techniques because most of their products are inventory which is increasing overall cost.

Vonkel has one big problem of to provide timely orders as because of the stock management system is
poor. Barcoding and RFID tags make supply chain tracking easier in the production process, storage,
distribution, and at the point of sale. Purchase orders for empty stock or minimum stock can be sent
automatically as products are sold to certain prefixed level. The burden and cost of placing unnecessary
inventory are reduced as a result of this system.

4. What is the best export strategy that would benefit Vonkel? And why?
Solution:
Exporting of goods is basically dependent on the target country in this case being the United Kingdom
and account of the country’s economic dependency with respect to the movement of goods, raw
materials, services, labour and capital across the borders has to be considered. Cooperation among the
parties enables better linkages among the smaller marginalized producers and between smaller and
larger mainstream enterprises.

The effective use of the Kimberly Process can be taken into account as it is believed to be the means of a
commitment to remove conflicts goods especially precious stones and metals from the global supply
chain and it holds a record of actively preventing 99.8% worldwide trade. The participants should also
commit to transparency and the exchange of statistical data. They can only legally trade
with other participants who have also met the minimum requirements of the scheme, and
international shipments of rough diamonds must be accompanied by a KP certificate
guaranteeing that they are conflict-free
