Skills Requirement Worksheet and Checklist: First, Ask Yourself Three Important Questions
Instructions
Use this form to list the actual skills you'll need to finish your project on a milestone or
task-by-task basis. Next, use the checklist to help you refine how to choose the right
people with the right skills for your project team.
How do you want to organize the people working on the project? (This
impacts whether you need supervisory personnel!)
Use a structured approach relating to your project’s work breakdown structure (WBS) to
answer the following questions for each task in the project.
How much experience should the person/people have to complete this task?
Does a person need to have specific experience doing this task, or can
general experience be applied? (If so, what general experience is required?)
How many of these skilled people will be needed for each task, and how
would they be organized by job title and job function?
List the skills required for each component of your project. You can use the WBS as a
basis for this document.

More Questions
If you could choose anyone you wanted for your team, who would these people be?
Why? (Think about skills and personality for each person you choose.)
Given the team you can actually get to work with, what levels of supervision will be
required?
Where will the people come from? From talent inside your department? Outside
hires? Consultants?
Are the people you are considering available, ready, willing and able?
Can you afford the people you want to hire for this project? (If you must turn to
outside sources, keep in mind that consultants, experts and labor cost big money.)
Will this project demand that already overburdened people take on more
responsibility? If so, how do you plan to avoid burnout?
