that follow them because they guide them into progress and they know how to listen to
their constituents. They motivate people and able to negotiate for resources and other
support to achieve their goals. In management, it’s a process of managing the activities of
the organization wherein it is more about administering and ensuring that the daily
activities are to be done within a day. It controls people in an organization according to
principles or values that have been established and directs people to complete a certain
task. Managers is in a position of authority vested in them by the organization or
company where they have people who work for them, tell people what to do like they
give orders and instructions about the task that they’re about to do and delegate those task
to each and every people.

2. When you are good in management, does it also mean that you are good in
leadership?
Management and leadership are two different aspects or roles that entail distinct
orientations and skills. Consequently, when a person is good in management, it doesn’t
necessarily mean that a person is also good in leadership because there are instances that
a person is only good at administering or managing things within the organization but
don’t know how to lead people. The same as in the circumstance like a person is good at
leadership or leading but don’t know to manage or failure in the aspects of management.
It is for the reason that a person may only have good organizational, planning and
analytical skills but lack in communication and influencing skills towards other people
which may be required to become a great leader in an organization. However, if a person
wanted to be good in both part in leadership and management, then it is possible if that
person is determined enough to be proficient in those aspect.

3. Do you think having a good leadership skill is vital in the successful operation of any
organization? Why?
Yes, having a good leadership skill is vital in the successful operation of any
organization. It assists to determine the goals of the organization where the leader will
show to their constituents that they were appreciated through listening to them,
acknowledging their feedback, and recognizing their work efforts because through this,

The Trait Leadership Approach is defined as integrated patterns of personal
characteristics that reflect a range of individual differences and foster consistent leader
effectiveness across a variety of group and organizational situations. Its concept is based
on the practice of discovering specific personality traits and characteristics proven to lead
to successful leadership in a wide variety of circumstances. It is based on the idea that
certain natural abilities can help someone become a leader more easily. In Charismatic
Leadership Approach, it is basically the method of encouraging particular behaviors in
others by way of eloquent communication, persuasion, and force of personality. It is a
trait-based theory which emphasizes the leader's ability to convince the subordinates to
work towards a specific vision because it’s closely related to traits approach.

2. What do you think are the best traits/qualities a good leader should possess?
The best traits or qualities that a good leader should possess are that they should have
the integrity, empathy, respectful, and vision. A leader that has integrity fosters trust from
their people because they stick to their word, live by their core values, lead as an
example, and follow-through. If a leader without integrity, they won’t be able to gain trust
from their constituents and can’t expect their followers to be honest when a leader is
lacking integrity in their self. Empathy should be on every leader’s quality, in which they
could be able to understand or feel what other people are experiencing. It doesn’t only
understand their constituents but it also enables leaders to address issues faster with
precision that makes them more flexible to respond on every circumstances. Treating
people with respect on a daily basis is one of the most fundamental and simple things in
order to be a good leader. It will ease tensions and conflict, create trust, and improve
effectiveness. Sharing vision and motivating others to act is a secret trait of successful
leaders that clearly set the direction in the organization and practice strong judgment.

effective leadership? Why?
When a leader utilize either of the trait leadership approach and charismatic
leadership approach, it guarantees effective leadership because both of those leadership
approach focuses about the essential traits or characteristics that a leader embodies in
which it assist them in order to enhance their ability or skills and unleashes their potential
to become an effective leader. Through those approaches, a leader makes various
individuals along together and encourages others to establish a common objective that
will operate in order to obtain a progressive organization. Leaders would inspire and
empower people to acknowledge their true potential and utilize these potential to achieve
organizational goals. Moreover, it makes the leaders to be in line with the vision and
objective of the organization to guide their people in the right direction. They stimulate
their people's capabilities and skills to develop teams dedicated on aiming for the
objectives of an organization.
Lesson 3 - Leadership Behavior & Styles and Leadership as a Continuum

1. What do you think is the best style of leadership? Why?

I think the best style of leadership is the Democratic Leadership because it
decentralized authority. This type of leadership is characterized by consultation with the
subordinates and their participation in the formulation of plans and policies, in which
participation in decision-making are highly encourage. It’s a blend of the task-oriented
and people-oriented leadership styles where the leader is there that provides guidance and
direction. It encourages feedback from their subordinates and takes their opinions into
account, even though the leader has made its final decisions. In democratic leadership, it
focuses on group equality and the free flow of ideas where everyone is given the
opportunity to participate, ideas are exchanged freely that let their subordinates express
their thoughts and taking those thoughts into the decision-making process, and discussion
is established.

2. If you were selected to be a group leader in a group project. What style of leadership
would you use? Why?
If I were selected to be a group leader in a group project, the style of leadership that I
would use is the Democratic or Participative Leadership. It is for the reason that through
this style of leadership, it incorporates a lot of positive qualities where it empowers others
and encourages the group’s spirit. I also want my group members to share their ideas or
thoughts and participation in order to obtain proper decision-making process for the
betterment of our project so that we could accomplish it together. I believe that through
good communication, cooperation of each other, and unity within the group leads to
accomplishment to obtain our common goal.

3. Do you agree that leadership style is influenced by leader, follower and situation?
Why?
Yes, I agree that leadership style is influenced by leader, follower and situation
through the forces operating the leaders’ personality such as value system, confidence in
subordinates, inclination towards leadership styles, and feeling security in uncertain
situations. Next is through the forces in subordinates where there is the willingness to
assume responsibility, their knowledge and experience and tolerance for ambiguity.
Lastly is through the forces of the situation which is the organizational values and
traditions, the effectiveness of the subordinates working as a unit and pressure of time. It
is where you would be able to identify what style of leadership is much better and more
effective. Wherein a person can determine through what a leader provides, the followers
would do, and what is happening within the organization because it is integrated to each
other. In autocratic leadership style, a leader controls all the decisions and takes very little
inputs from their followers because leaders made decisions that is based on their own
beliefs and do not involve others for their suggestion or advice. In which it results in a
lack of creative solutions to problems, which can ultimately hurt the group from
performing.
Lesson 4 - The Contingency & Path-Goal Approach

1. What is Fiedler’s Contingency Theory of Leadership? Applying it to cases of leaders

whom you have known, do you find it accurate?
Fiedler's Contingency Theory of Leadership is where the effectiveness of a leader is
being determined by how well is the leadership style matches the situation. It implies that
there is no one best style of leadership but instead a leader's effectiveness is based on the
situation. The theory is based on the premise that each of our leadership style can be
scored on the Least Preferred Co-worker (LPC) scale. Yes, I found it accurate on
applying it to the cases of leaders whom I’ve known because through this Fiedler's
Contingency Theory of Leadership or Fiedler’s measurement which is the LPC scale, the
members of the group which is the constituents of the leader may able to rate a certain
leader where it is necessary in an organization or group in order for those people
determine if their leader is a relationship-oriented leader or a task-oriented leader.

2. What do you think are the advantage and limitations of Path-Goal Approach to
leadership?
The advantage of Path-Goal Approach to leadership is that it sets goal with the
subordinates, help them find the best path to achieve their goals and remove obstacles. It
is suitable for emergencies and situations where there is a time constraint. It makes things
clearer as the orders are being given and one person is making the decisions so there are
less chaotic circumstances. It highlights the role of leaders to guide and assist their
subordinates achieve where it provides a framework for leaders to understand how their
style influences the motivation of their subordinates.

3. Assuming that you are elected as SK President in your Barangay, what leadership
approach will you base your leadership style? Why?
Assuming that I am elected as SK President in our Barangay, the leadership approach
that I will base my leadership style is the Path-Goal Approach to leadership. It is because
in my own perception, it is somewhat like goal-oriented type of leadership which it is the
path that leads towards the goal wherein it is good for the improvement and development
of our Barangay in achieving our goals, which will lead into better organization between
me, as SK President, and my constituents for it does not only influences on the goal of the
organization but also on the behavioral aspects that occurs within our organization or
Barangay.

sure the day-to-day activities are happening as they should. Managers have people who
work for them. In order to obtain a progressive organization, it needs to have both
strong leader and manager to get their people on board to follow them towards their
vision of success.

3. Is there a particular leadership style that is applicable in all situation?

I guess there’s no particular leadership style that is applicable all situations because in
every circumstances, it requires various leadership style that is why we have different
styles of leadership that can be applied in every situation. However, I think that
transformational leadership is a great leadership style to be utilized in
which leaders encourage employees to innovate and create change that will help grow and
direct the future success of the company. It focuses on the growth of their constituents by
intrinsically motivating them, treating them as a part of the organization or group, being
an inspiring role model to their people and developing a vision.

within the group to give their effort for the higher productivity and progress of an
organization, and there is a need to share ideas and to encourage people to support and
implement decisions. It directs the activities of an organization towards the attainment of
the specified organizational goals. Leadership identifies the future needs and
opportunities for others where it is being open to new ideas and experiences. Moreover it
